The Emerson Avenger

The Emerson Avenger is a "memory hole" free blog where censorship is scorned. This blog will "guard the right to know" about any injustices and abuses that corrupt Unitarian Universalism. Posters may speak and argue freely, according to conscience, about any injustices and abuses, or indeed hypocrisy, that they may know about so that the Avenger, in the form of justice and redress, may come surely and swiftly. . . In 1992 I underwent a profound revelatory experience of God which revealed that the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" is a "Sign in the Heavens" that symbolizes God's divine omniscience. You may read about what Rev. Ray Drennan of the Unitarian Church of Montreal contemptuously dismissed as my "psychotic experience" here: http://revelationisnotsealed.homestead.com - This revelatory religious experience inspired me to propose an inter-religious celebration of Creation that would take place whenever a total solar eclipse took place over our planet. You may read about what Rev. Ray Drennan and other leading members of the Unitarian Church of Montreal falsely and maliciously labeled as a "cult" here: http://creationday.homestead.com - I am now an excommunicated Unitarian whose "alternative spiritual practice" includes publicly exposing and denouncing Unitarian*Universalist injustices, abuses, and hypocrisy. The Emerson Avenger blog will serve that purpose for me and hopefully others will share their concerns here. Dee Miller's term DIM Thinking is used frequently and appropriately on this blog. The Horror. . . The Horror. . . Of U*U Brown Bag Lunches. . .

Oh dear. . .

It looks like Rev. Diane Rollert of the alleged Unitarian Church of Montreal is quite oblivious to the Starr*k raving "brown bag lunch" controversy. ;-)

Straight from the home page of this alleged U*U "Church" -

What's New

Friday, September 28, 2007

The Unitarian Church of Montreal has a wealth of activities; you can just sample or get more involved in this community. In the month of September, you can

Join Rev. Diane Rollert for a new season of Seeking the Sacred in Stories, a brown bag lunch group meeting at noon on September 25th (copies of the story available at the UCM office).

How terribly un-PC of you Rev. Rollert. . .

UUA Ministers Suppress Response To Victims’ Pain. . .

Freelance journalist Rick Heller reports about how Doctors suppress response to patients’ pain on his Transparent Eye blog

Here is my synthesized version of my two follow-up comments which I expect that Rick Heller might distance himself from, and suppress, by promptly relegating them to the burgeoning U*U "memory*hole". . .

UUA administrators learn to distance themselves from the pain of victims of U*U clergy misconduct and other U*U injustices and abuses.

Don`t believe me?

Take it straight from this U*U Soul. . .

I had to post two follow-up successive responses on Rick Heller`s Transparent Eye blog because the link to my free and responsible Google search for the truth and meaning of Ministerial Fellowship Committee Executive Secretary Rev. Beth Miller`s "firewall" (aka corpse-cold Unitarian heart. . .) did not work properly. The synthesized comment above is how I had wanted my comment to appear on Rick`s blog.

Some UUA National Marketing Campaign Talk For President Bill Sinkford and Gini Courter To Answer To. . .

Rev. Dr. Daniel O'Connell posted about what he calls the First national Unitarian*Universalist media campaign on the Central MidWest District President's Blog yesterday. His post is mostly a public reposting of an official UUA email that UUA President Bill Sinkford and UUA Moderator Gini Coulter sent out to the District President's List and most likely some other UUA email lists.

Here is what Rev. Bill Sinkford and Gini Courter said in their email message -

Can We Talk?

On October 5th the first national Unitarian Universalist media campaign in over 50 years will begin. Look in TIME magazine for a full page ad which asks the question, "Is God Keeping You Out of Church?" Over 20,000,000 Americans read TIME each week. Some of them will be coming to your congregation to find out if Unitarian Universalism can become their religious home. How will they be welcomed?

Gini Courter and I want to invite you to a conversation about how we prepare our congregations to welcome these guests. We'll be using a technology that allows hundreds of UU leaders to be on a single call, ask questions and have those questions answered. We would love for you to join us next Thursday, October 4th, at 12:00 Eastern Standard Time to reflect together on what we are called to do to welcome those new seekers who will come. Just dial this toll-free number (877-844-6052), and join the call.

Gini and I will say a few words at the beginning, but the conversation will be shaped by the questions that you will ask. Needless to say this is new technology for us, another experiment, if you will.

Between now and next Thursday, check out the new resources on welcoming guests at uua.org. Just click on the announcement of the marketing campaign on the Home Page. Scroll down to find the "Related Content" box on the right hand side (below the TIME magazine cover). Click on "Belonging and Welcoming Resources."

This is a very exciting and important time for our faith. We'd love to have you in the conversation about how we can make the most of it.

Can we talk?--

Bill Sinkford and Gini Courter

Here is how I responded to that post on Rev. Dr. Daniel O'Connell's blog.

I would be very happy to talk to UUA President Bill Sinkford and UUA Moderator Gini Courter about the UUA's highly misleading, if not outright false and fraudulent, national marketing campaign.

Some of the people, if not most of the people. . . who will be coming to U*U congregations to find out if Unitarian*Universalism can become their religious home will be God believing people. How will God believing people of various kinds be welcomed in U*U "churches"? I do not know exactly how bad the situation is in the USA but I know that a good number of U*U "churches" harbour fundamentalist atheist "Humanist" U*Us who are intolerant of, if not outright hostile and abusive towards, God believing people in general and Christians in particular. So asking how will God believing people be welcomed ion so-called U*U "Welcoming Congregations" is a very important question and it is one that UUA President Bill Sinkford and other UUA officials have no clear answers to.

I long ago asked President Bill Sinkford to responsibly address this serious problem of U*Uism but he never responded to me directly and I see no evidence whatsoever that he has ever dealt with this problem that makes some, if not many, U*U congregations anything but genuinely welcoming to the God believing people, who make up the vast majority of the "market share" of people who might want to go to a U*U "church" on any given Sunday, in a firm and forthright manner. Au contraire, President Bill Sinkford seems to have carefully evaded acknowledging this serious problem of the U*U World and implementing any processes that could solve it. As far as I am concerned this UUA national marketing campaign is putting the marketing cart before the welcoming horse. The millions spent on this dubious marketing campaign might have been much better spent on internal programs of various kinds that would serve to make U*U congregations more genuinely welcoming to God believing people. A national marketing campaign of this nature might not be necessary at all if God believing people were not made to feel rather less than welcome in many U*U "churches".

Most ironically the "parting shot" marketing slogan of one of the San Francisco/Bay Area marketing videos says,

"Don`t let someone else`s idea of God keep you from going to church. Discover Unitarian*Universalism"

What happens when newcomers visit Unitarian*Universalist "churches" only to discover that there is precious little God in them and that "someone else`s idea of God" is not only that God does not exist but that people who believe in God are stupid or deluded? For example, one atheist "Humanist" U*U minister`s idea of God as he quite dogmatically preached it during a Sunday sermon, is that God is "a non-existent being" and that belief in God "seems primitive". . . What happens when God believing people show up at Unitarian*Universalist "Welcoming Congregations" only to discover that they are not particularly welcome there?

September 28, 2007 5:20 AM

I have a bit more to say on the subject however so here is my point by point response to the email message of President Bill Sinkford and Gini Courter -

:Can We Talk?

Any time Bill and Gini. I am ready to talk whenever you are. In fact Bill knows very well that I have repeatedly asked to talk with him over the last several years but he has repeatedly refused to talk to me. . .

:On October 5th the first national Unitarian Universalist media campaign in over 50 years will begin.

So just what is with this business of referring to the ONLY national Unitarian*Universalist media campaign in the less than 50 years of the existence of the Unitarian*Universalist Association as "the first national Unitarian Universalist media campaign in over 50 years" Bill and Gini? That questionable description of the UUA's national marketing campaign comes across as being just a tad fraudulent. If your own and other UUA official's misleading description of the campaign is itself misleading and even somewhat fraudulent it does not inspire confidence that the actual content of the national marketing campaign itself is not misleading or even outright fraudulent false advertising.

Surely you are both aware that the Unitarian*Universalist Association is less than 50 years old, having been formed in 1961, so it is simply an impossibility that the Unitarian*Universalist Association could have had ANY advertising campaign over 50 years ago, let alone a national marketing campaign. I am sorry to have to say so but I belierve that the most reasonable explanation for your own and other Unitarian*Universalist U*Us insistence on publicly calling it "the first national Unitarian Universalist media campaign in over 50 years" is to give the appearance that the Unitarian*Universalist Association is significantly older than 50 years old when in fact it is still a few years less than 50 years old.

:Look in TIME magazine for a full page ad which asks the question, "Is God Keeping You Out of Church?"

Don't worry Bill and Gini. You can be quite sure that I will be doing just that and seeingh what other questionable marketing slogans and misleading or outright false claims are made in the Unitarian Universalist Association's national media campaign. Just for starters please allow me to inform you both that it is almost certainly a dearth of God, or even intolerant, disdainful and contemptuous, to say nothing of outright hostile and abusive, reactions towards God believing people in general and Christians in particular that is keeping a great many americans and Canadians out of Unitarian*Universalist "churches."

:Over 20,000,000 Americans read TIME each week.

Wow! 20,000,000 Americans to be "illusioned" by the highly misleading, if not outright fraudulent false advertising, of the Unitarian Universalist Association's national marketiong campaign.

:Some of them will be coming to your congregation to find out if Unitarian Universalism can become their religious home.

And I fully expect that some, if not most. . . of those Americans who do bother to visit Unitarian*Universalist "churches" as a result of the UUA's national marketing campaign will quickly become disillusioned by what they actually experience in U*U "Welcoming Congregations" that are rather less than genuinely welcoming to God believing Americans.

:How will they be welcomed?

Excellent question Bill and Gini. My I suggest that you and other UUA administrators might have been very well advised to ask that important question *before* embarking on a multi-million dollar national media campaign that might attract God believing Americans to rather less than welcoming U*U "churches"?

:Gini Courter and I want to invite you to a conversation about how we prepare our congregations to welcome these guests.

So Bill and Gini. Just how did you prepare U*U "Welcoming Congregations" to welcome these expected guests? Just what did you and other UUA administrators do, prior to launching your multi-million dollar national marketing campaign, to prepare U*U "churches" to welcome guests of the God believing persuasion?

:We'll be using a technology that allows hundreds of UU leaders to be on a single call, ask questions and have those questions answered.

That will be a sight to see. Or perhaps I should say, that will be a sound to be heard. . .

:We would love for you to join us next Thursday, October 4th, at 12:00 Eastern Standard Time to reflect together on what we are called to do to welcome those new seekers who will come. Just dial this toll-free number (877-844-6052), and join the call.

I will mark that in my calendar Bill and Gini.

:Gini and I will say a few words at the beginning, but the conversation will be shaped by the questions that you will ask.

Wonderful!

:Needless to say this is new technology for us, another experiment, if you will.

What if U*Us won't? What if U*Us are fed up with questionable UUA "experiments"?

:Between now and next Thursday, check out the new resources on welcoming guests at uua.org. Just click on the announcement of the marketing campaign on the Home Page. Scroll down to find the "Related Content" box on the right hand side (below the TIME magazine cover). Click on "Belonging and Welcoming Resources."

Been there. Done that.

:This is a very exciting and important time for our faith.

Indeed it is Bill and Gini. It may well be a very exciting and important time for your faith in ways that you had not imagined. . .

:We'd love to have you in the conversation about how we can make the most of it.

Really Bill and Gini? Are you quite sure of that?

:Can we talk?

:Bill Sinkford and Gini Courter

Sure Bill and Gini. Feel free. . . Any time. . .

In fact I cordially invite both of you to come here and talk all you want in the comments section below. After all, as Rev. Charles Eddis, founder of the Canadian Unitarian Council and minister emeritus of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, declares in his own highly misleading if not outright fraudulent false advertising for Unitarian*Universalism,

"We jealously guard the right to know, to speak, and to argue freely, according to conscience, within our own church and in society at large. . . We believe that truth stands the best chance of emerging under conditions of freedom."

I look forward to hearing from you both and engaging in some bona fide "talk" aka dialogue. . .

Monkeying With The Mind Of James Ishmael Ford. . .

The following parody was just posted as a comment to this post on James Ishmael Ford's "moderated" aka censored 'Monkey Mind' blog. Rev. James Ishmael Ford wrote about how the fact that the Generals of Burma had (hopefully only temporarily) "disappeared" Aung San Suu Kyi in response to recent protests by Burmese Buddhist monks and nuns, served as evidence that the Burmese generals fear Aung San Suu Kyi aka Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

My satirical comment makes it abundantly clear that, although the degree of suppression and repression of criticism and dissent may be somewhat different, Unitarian*Universalist U*Us are doing pretty much the same thing as the Burmese Generals to Robin Edgar aka The Emerson Avenger. . .

The social dynamic is pretty much identical -

He Whom the U*Us Fear

And they say heroes don't walk amongst U*Us. . .

After the new U*U minister came to him, where he has protested for so long after false arrest, the U*Us sought an order to have him hidden away.

Right now U*Us know very well where he is. . . ;-)

U*U Breaking News! Jaume de Marcos Is "Elected" As Secretary Of The International Council of Unitarians and Universalists!

OK I freely admit that I just might be getting slightly ahead of myself here but, knowing what I know about U*U "democracy". . . I am hereby announcing the "election" of Spanish U*U Jaume de Marcos of Barcelona, Catalunya, as Secretary of the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists, aka the I C U*U ;-), in Oberwesel, Germany in mid-November. . .

Herewith, with one corrected typographical error, a comment that I just posted to Jaume de Marcos' Hanif blog -

"Actually, I may be elected the new Secretary of this organization."

Knowing what I know about U*U "democracy", may I presume that there is no other candidate for the position?

Congratulations on your impending "election" victory Jaume! ;-)

An U*U Soul, A Trickster, And Some Sacred Clowning Around. . . ;-)

Well it turns out that Rev. Mark Christian, Lead Minister of the First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City, has yet another Unitarian Universalist blog that is rather more active than his languishing 'Ask A Rev' blog. Indeed, so far. . . Rev. Christian has done a pretty good job of living up to his name by not "memory*holing", or otherwise censoring and suppressing, my comments on his Freely In Faith blog.

Here is my latest comment that I just posted to Rev. Mark Christian's 'Is Faith Funny?' blog post. It responds to an earlier comment made by a female U*U blogger going by the handle U*U Soul, who for some reason recently changed the title of one of her two U*U blogs from 'Finding My U*U Soul' to 'Soul Works'. U*U Soul saw fit to bring up the subject of the Trickster figure or "Sacred Clown" of Native American religious beliefs and practices -

"They speak funny, they dance badly (or well), they tease, they mimic tourists, they act out the weather, they sing, they make people laugh, but above all their presence is considered to have spiritual significance."

I guess that makes me a bit of a Trickster then U*U Soul. ;-)

I speak funny, I dance badly (or well. . .), I tease, I mimic tourists, I act out the weather, I sing (badly), I make people laugh, but above all my presence is considered to have spiritual significance.

Three Questions For Rev. Mark W. Christian Lead Minister of the First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City

On his 'Ask A Rev' blog, U*U minister Rev. Mark W. Christian who is currently Lead Minister of the First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, solicits questions about about "spiritualty (sic), ethics, the bible, world religions, church organization or religious leadership."

In his blog description, aka "mission statement", at the top of every page Rev. Mark Christian says,

"Ask me. Ask me anything!"

Perhaps he is unaware of the epigram,

"Be careful what you ask for lest you get it. . ."

He boasts of holding "a Master of Divinity (Magna Cum Laude) from an accredited seminary" and thus having "some qualifications!" to answer people's questions about such things as "spiritualty (sic), ethics, the bible, world religions, church organization or religious leadership."

In his blog post dated Saturday, August 12, 2006 and, perhaps a bit too optimistically. . . titled, 'Questions AND Answers' Rev. Christian says -

At any rate--pose me your three (four being "right out") questions. I'll try to do as well as Arthur. Just respond to the blog or write me a AskARev@aol.com. I'll do the rest--and bring me a shrubbery while you're at it!

So herewith are the three questions regarding U*U "church" ethics, U*U "church" organization, and U*U religious leadership, that I just submitted to Rev. Mark Christian using the comment function on his 'Ask A Rev' blog. I will ensure that he is aware of these three questions by sending them to him via email as well. I look forward to Rev. Mark Christian's answers to these three questions.

Indeed I have already offered him some of the shrubbery he requested in advance -

1: Do you believe that it is "within the appropriate guidelines of ministerial leadership" (presumably as set forth in the UUMA Guidelines) for a U*U minister to contemptuously dismiss a church member's religious beliefs as being nothing but "silliness and fantasy", to similarly contemptuously dismiss a church member's claimed religious experience as "your psychotic experience" and last, but by no means least, falsely and maliciously label an inter-religious event that they successfully organized as "your cult"?

2: Do you believe that U*Us are living up to the letter and the spirit of the "covenants" expressed in the purported "principles and purposes" of U*Uism when they willfully ignore and/or arbitrarily dismiss the complaints of victims of clergy misconduct?

3: Do you believe that U*Us are living up to the letter and the spirit of the "covenants" expressed in the purported "principles and purposes" of U*Uism when they expel victims of U*U clergy misconduct from U*U "churches" for refusing to drop their grievances after they have been willfully ignored and/or arbitrarily dismissed by the "church" and/or the UUA; and even go so far as to have them falsely arrested on trumped up criminal charges in misguided efforts to suppress their peaceful public protest against U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy?

I look forward to your answers to all three of these questions Rev. Christian.

Here is some shrubbery for your efforts.

Will Rev. Diane Rollert Atone For Her Sins And Seek Forgiveness For Them?

The following email was sent to Rev. Diane Rollert of the Unitarian Church of Montreal minutes ago. It was a somewhat impromptu decision to send her a communication on Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, which came as a direct result of reading her sermon titled -

The Value of One Life: A Sermon for the High Holy Days (PDF file)

It will be interesting to see how Rev. Diane Rollert responds to this latest communication from me, assuming that she responds to it at all of course. . . Hopefully she will respond to it in a rather more appropriate manner than she has responded to my previous email communications, which were forwarded to her along with this most recent email.

I am embedding a few appropriate hyperlinks into the text of this email, which may be considered to be an open letter to Rev. Rollert.

I had intended to send Rev. Rollert a rather more carefully thought out and comprehensive open letter, dealing with her highly questionable decision to seek a court ordered restraining order against me on the spurious (if not outright perjurious) grounds that she is "very frightened" of me and has "reasonable grounds" to believe that I might commit a "serious personal injury offense" against her, in the coming days and I may still do so. An alternative option would be to send an open letter addressed to the Board and/or congregation of the Unitarian Church of Montreal.

Dear Rev. Rollert,

May I suggest that you reread these emails that I sent to you a while back in an effort to bring some genuinely just, genuinely equitable, and genuinely compassionate resolution to the long drawn out conflict that I am involved in with the Unitarian Church of Montreal?

May I also suggest that you make a sincere and serious effort to respond to these emails in a rather more appropriate manner than you have so far?

You might want to reread some of your own sermons that are pertinent to this situation as well, especially those that were inspired by Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day Of Atonement, such as the sermon that you delivered last Sunday. You might want to give some serious consideration to just what the value of my life is, and how it has been negatively affected by the very well-documented injustices and abuses that Unitarian*Universalists have inflicted upon me over the years.

If you want forgiveness for "missing the mark" with me, you will have to seek it from me personally. The highly questionable concept of "self-forgiveness" that seems to be so popular with apparently quite conscienceless U*Us will not wash in this matter. If however you clearly and unequivocally acknowledge the various errors that you have made, both sins of ommision and sins of commision, and then make a sincere effort to correct those serious errors, you will discover that I am capable of being quite understanding and forgiving.

Sincerely,

Robin Edgar

Dear Rev. Rollert,

Thank you for verbally confirming that you have received the emails copied below when I asked you if you had received them as we were both walking toward the Unitarian Church of Montreal from Vendome METRO station this morning.

I have written about our encounter on The Emerson Avenger blog here -

http://emersonavenger.blogspot.com/2006/11/emerson-avenger-has-synchroni-city.html

As I said to you earlier today, and as should be clear from what I have repeated on The Emerson Avenger blog, I believe that you have a moral and ethical professional responsibility as the minister of the Unitarian Church of Montreal to take a leadership position that leads it towards actually practicing justice, equity and compassion in its human relations with me rather than willfully disregarding and flagranting violating these and other U*U principles in its rather inhuman human relations with me.

I will not allow you to abdicate your responsibility in this matter. I am not aware of how "congregational polity" on even "congregational policy" can legitimately prevent you from responding to my email communications, or otherwise speaking with me. Any such policy violates U*U principles as far as I am concerned. I am sure that if I went through the UUMA Guidelines for the conduct of ministry I could find a fair number of clauses that would support your right and even your responsibility and moral and ethical obligation to enter into dialogue with me in an effort to resolve the ongoing conflict in a manner that lives up to the U*U "covenant" to affirm and promote justice, equity and compassion in human relations. How is this just for dstarters?

Members of our congregations have freely gathered to become a body of people seeking to find and to walk together in ways of *truth* and affection. Members have gathered in freedom to worship; to teach, encourage and support one another; and to speak to the world in words and actions of *right*, beauty, *peace* and goodwill.

To seek and to accept ordination to our ministry is to dedicate one's life to the work needful for *fulfillment* of these high *aims*. The minister is one who has made a *life commitment* to the religious community as an institution.

If you really care about the well-being of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, if you care about the well-being of the greater U*U religious community, to say nothing of your profession of ministry, you will begin now to take a moral and ethical leadership position that can and will lead towards a genuinely just, genuinely equitable and genuinely compassionate resolution of the ludicrously drawn out conflict that Montreal Unitarians have so unethically and immorally chosen to engage in for over a decade now. That process will most certainly include dialogue with me.

Whatever institutional constraints may have been placed on you to avoid communication with me almost certainly violate claimed U*U ideals and principles, if not the UUMA guidelines and other UUA and CUC policies. As I indicated in my original email to you, it is almost a certainty that the reason the leaders of the Unitarian Church of Montreal don't want you communicating with me is because, once you do so, it will very quickly become apparent that I have very legitimate cause for grievance and my ongoing public protest activities and that the leaders of the Unitarian Church of Montreal almost certainly misled you in any "debriefing" they may have given you about this conflict. A free and genuinely responsible search for the truth and meaning of the "root causes" of my grievances and protests will most certainly not set U*Us free.

At some point in time the Unitarian Church of Montreal is going to have to acknowledge the injustices and abuses that I have been subjected to by Rev. Ray Drennan and other intolerant and abusive anti-religious atheists, as well as the subsequent injustices and abuses arising from the UCM Board's negligent and effectively complicit responses to my letters of grievance and the unjust, inequitable, and uncompassionate punitive expulsions that I have been subjected to for submitting letters of grievance and publicly protesting against U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy. The sooner in your ministry this occurs the better for everyone concerned.

It is most certainly not my fault that Montreal Unitarians and the UUA have obstinately stonewalled, delayed, and outright denied justice until you became minister. Montreal Unitarians and the UUA have had numerous opportunities to settle this conflict but, quite regrettably, they have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity. The ball is very firmly in your court and I expect you to play ball. I expect you to wage peace in this conflict and you can only wage peace by waging justice, equity and compassion in human relations with me. And yes, that does mean that I expect you and other appropriate Montreal Unitarians to enter into free and open dialogue with me in the very near future.

Sincerely,

Robin Edgar

Dear Rev. Rollert,

Please reply to this important communication within the next week.

Thank-you,

Robin Edgar wrote:

Dear Rev. Rollert,

I regret to have to inform you that in taking on the position of settled minister of the Unitarian Church of Montreal you unfortunately inherited a bit of a mess that Montreal Unitarians knowingly and willfully chose not to clean up prior to engaging you as their new settled minister. For more information about this failure on the part of Montreal Unitarians please read the email copied below that I sent to the Board members of the Unitarian Church of Montreal in March of 2005.

I fully expect that church leaders have "debriefed" you about my ongoing public protest activities in front of the Unitarian Church of Montreal that you have seen with your own eyes on at least one occasion. I equally fully expect that any such "debriefing" by church leaders was a very carefully controlled exercise in misinformation and disinformation that was knowingly and willfully misleading. Montreal Unitarians probably withheld some important information that you have a right to know about and their version of the story almost certainly included some highly misleading half-truths, untruths and falsehoods, and even some outright lies. I therefore invite you to enter into dialogue with me about this unfortunate conflict in the near future so that you may hear my side of the story and thus enter into a genuinely free and responsible search for the truth and meaning that is the "root cause" of my ongoing public protest activities. I expect you to take on a responsible leadership position in this matter that leads to genuine justice. Without real justice there will be no peace between me and Montreal Unitarians.

As per the email that I sent to the members of the Board of the Unitarian Church of Montreal that is copied below I fully intend to continue in my ongoing public protest against U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy until such a time as my perfectly legitimate grievances are responded to with genuine justice, genuine equity, and genuine compassion by Montreal Unitarians, and indeed the UUA and CUC. When it became clear to me that Montreal Unitarians had chosen to ignore my clear warning that I would continue my protest activities into the term of the next settled minister if they refused to hold Rev. Ray Drennan accountable for his intolerant and abusive clergy misconduct I decided to hold in reserve some actions that I could have taken earlier. I will be moving forward with those actions that I chose to hold in reserve in the coming weeks and months.

This state of conflict will continue until such time as Montreal Unitarians and the UUA and CUC clearly and unequivocally acknowledge the injustices and abuses that I have been subjected to by Unitarian Universalists and take steps to properly redress my very serious legitimate grievances that arise from those injustices and abuses. The sooner that you, in your capacity as the new settled minister of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, take a morally and ethically sound leadership position that clearly seeks to provide genuine justice, genuine equity and genuine compassion in your own and other U*Us' human relations with me the sooner this long drawn out conflict will come to a long overdue resolution.

Opening lines of communication and entering into genuine dialogue is absolutely essential to resolving this ongoing conflict. I have always made it clear that I am ready, willing and able to enter into mediated dialogue and to participate in genuinely just and equitable conflict resolution procedures however, in spite of spurious claims to the contrary, Montreal U*Us have consistently failed and even outright refused to enter into any viable mediated dialogue with me or to initiate any genuinely just and equitable conflict resolution procedures in this matter. On the contrary Montreal Unitarians have undertaken highly questionable efforts to try to silence my legitimate criticism and dissent and have even tried to censor and suppress my public protest by having me arrested on false criminal charges. I invite you, and other Unitarian Universalists who genuinely desire justice, equity, compassion and peace in human relations to enter into meaningful dialogue with me, and to initiate genuinely just and equitable conflict resolution procedures. Only a sincere and sustained effort to finally resolve this ongoing state of conflict in a genuinely just, genuinely equitable and genuinely compassionate manner can bring some long overdue healing and peace to not only the Unitarian Church of Montreal but to the greater Unitarian Universalist religious community.

Sincerely,

Robin Edgar

Dear Member of the Board of the Unitarian Church of Montreal,

It has come to my attention that Rev. Ray Drennan recently tendered his resignation as minister of the Unitarian Church of Montreal. I wish to make it very clear to church Board members that Rev. Drennan’s resignation will not result in an end to my ongoing protest activities. On the contrary it is likely to result in an intensification of my protest activities in the coming weeks and months unless the Unitarian Church of Montreal acts quickly to responsibly redress my longstanding grievances that arise from Rev. Ray Drennan’s demeaning and abusive clergy misconduct. My public protest will not end until Rev. Ray Drennan, and other leading members of the Unitarian Church of Montreal who are responsible for labeling Creation Day as a “cult” and other injustices and abuses that include discrimination and harassment, are held fully responsible for their harmful words and actions. I also expect certain former and current church leaders to face full accountability for their clearly negligent, effectively complicit, and/or unjustly punitive responses to my previous letters of grievance and public protest that contributed to the unnecessary prolongation and escalation of this conflict.

To my knowledge Rev. Ray Drennan has never faced the slightest accountability for his openly hostile, false and malicious, labeling of Creation Day as “your cult”. Likewise he has never been held in any way accountable for his contemptuous dismissal of my revelatory religious experience as “your psychotic experience” along with his angry demands that I immediately seek “professional help”. His “injurious and untrue” belittling and maligning of the religious insights that arose from my profound revelatory religious experience as being nothing but “silliness and fantasy” was also condoned. Rev. Drennan has never retracted his clearly abusive “insulting and defamatory” words that I reported to the church Board, the ‘Disruptive Behavior Committee’, and other church members in my previous letters of grievance, nor has he ever acknowledged their “injurious and untrue” nature. My own highly justified picket sign slogans have been described as “injurious and untrue” by Rev. Charles Eddis, and I have been similarly accused of using “insulting and defamatory language” by Board President John Pike.

Why is it that I have yet to hear Rev. Charles Eddis, President John Pike or any other leader of the Unitarian Church of Montreal responsibly acknowledge the quite evidently “injurious and untrue” and “insulting and defamatory” nature of the offensive and damaging language that Rev. Ray Drennan, Frank Greene, John Inder, Keith Robinson and other members of the Unitarian Church of Montreal have falsely and abusively, to say nothing of outright maliciously, used to label me personally and/or my religious beliefs and practices such a Creation Day?

For close to a decade the Board and congregation of the Unitarian Church of Montreal have willfully ignored or unjustly dismissed my serious grievances. Above and beyond this evidently unjust, inequitable, and uncompassionate treatment the Unitarian Church of Montreal has subjected me to repeated, and ultimately permanent, expulsion from the church. The initial six month expulsion was a cynical attempt to censor and suppress the expression of my legitimate complaints in letters of grievance. Later expulsions were unjust and inequitable punitive responses to my subsequent public protest. My ongoing public protest would never have begun if the Board of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, and its so-called Disruptive Behavior Committee, had acted to responsibly redress my legitimate grievances in a just, equitable, and compassionate manner when I filed formal complaints about Rev. Ray Drennan’s evidently insulting and injurious “disruptive behavior” towards me and my religious beliefs and practices.

I hereby demand that Rev. Ray Drennan must face full accountability, including appropriate disciplinary action, for his abusive clergy misconduct prior to leaving the Unitarian Church of Montreal. This disciplinary action must be entirely commensurate with the seriousness of Rev. Drennan’s demeaning and abusive behavior towards me as it is described in my previous letters of grievance. Rev. Drennan should also be subjected to disciplinary action for the obvious harm that his ongoing refusal to accept any personal responsibility for his clearly “insulting and defamatory language” has clearly caused the Unitarian Church of Montreal. Rev. Ray Drennan, and several other leading members of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, bear personal responsibility for most of any “image tarnishing” that the Unitarian Church suffers as a result of my ongoing legitimate public protest.

I expect the Unitarian Church of Montreal to act quickly and responsibly in its response to this demand for genuinely just and equitable redress of my serious grievances. I expect the church Board to initiate responsible conflict resolution procedures very soon. The upcoming special congregational meeting in April presents an opportunity to responsibly address this conflict and I expect to be provided an opportunity to clearly explain to the congregation as a whole why I am protesting and what the Unitarian Church must do to responsibly redress my legitimate grievances. This ongoing conflict could have ended several years ago if the church Board and the ‘Disruptive Behavior Committee’ had not responded in a negligent, effectively complicit, and unjustly punitive manner to my previous letters of grievance. If I do not receive genuinely just and equitable redress for my legitimate grievances before Rev. Ray Drennan leaves the church I will hold President John Pike and this Board responsible for negligence that effectively condones Rev. Drennan’s abusive clergy misconduct. My protest will continue and the next minister of the Unitarian Church of Montreal will inherit this conflict.

Sincerely,

Robin Edgar

Oh, Whoa, Whoa, Jamie's Cryin'. . . ;-)

Well It's About Time. . . Or is it?

U*U blogger Jamie Goodwin seems to be a U*U Man On A Mission these days. Jamie's Cryin' about the interim minister of the Unitarian*Universalist Church of Akron, Ohio, Rev. Mary Moore on his 'Trivium' blog in an amusing Van Halen analogy.

"Worship is really important to me, and our new minister is really not that good at presenting worship or public speaking, at least not to my sensibilities. I am going to illustrate my point with this Van Halen front-man metaphor.

I grew up with David Lee Roth – amazing, flashy, engaging speakers who made you want to demand to be a part of the action.

I found Unitarian Universalism with Sammy Hagar – the minister there was a little older, definantly more skilled than what I had known, but less passionate, still pretty good, better than I expected, and every once a while a real zinger that got you just like the old days.

Now that my church is in transition we got Gary Cherone - I mean it’s still professional, it still offers some good grooves and you want to dig it, but it’s just not the same. There is not the passion of Roth, nor the skill of Hagar, and you hate to say it but you just can’t stand the new CD."

Clearly Jamie Goodwin is not so Hot For Teacher and he quite obviously does not believe that Rev. Mary Moore is Good Enough when it comes to leading worship services at Unitarian*Universalist Church of Akron, Ohio. You would swear from all of his bitchin' and complaining over the last several months that the Unitarian*Universalist Church of Akron is more of a House Of Pain than a House Of Worship. It is abundantly evident that Christian U*U Jamie Goodwin is anything but on Top Of The World these days. In fact he even seems to be just a tad Strung Out. Will he suffer from a Loss Of Control?

What will Akron Unitarian*Universalist U*Us do to put out this embarrassing Fire In The Hole?

Does Jamie Goodwin have One Foot Out The Door of the Unitarian*Universalist Church of Akron? Will he Jump his U*U Ship Of Fools and end up Crossing Over to another Ohio U*U "church", or a more genuinely Christian denomination than the uncommonly anti-Christian denomination known as U*Uism? Or will he just end up spending Sunday Afternoon In The Park? Indeed, considering just how Christophobic some anti-Christian Unitarian*Universalist U*Us can be one can't help but wonder if such U*Us are Runnin' With The Devil. . . ;-)

Surely by now Jamie Goodwin has learned that when Push Comes To Shove his fellow Unitarian*Universalists are just Humans Being U*Us.

I can't help but wonder how U*U interim minister Rev. Mary Moore feels about being so publicly Spanked by Jamie Goodwin? Surely she can't be terribly happy about Jamie Goodwin so publicly saying You're No Good. Jamie sure Ain't Talkin 'Bout Love in any case. No doubt we'll all Hear About It Later. . .

Is it possible that Jamie Goodwin is just a U*U Sucker In A 3 Piece?
If so, hopefully he Won't Get Fooled Again.

So Where Have All The Good Times Gone Jamie?

Disenvoweling Yet Another Unitarian*Universalist. . .

Read it and weep. . .

It might interest U*U minister Rev. Daniel Harper to know that if you "disenvowel" an U*U, all that remains is an asterisk. . . ;-)

Still ROTFLMU*UO!

For the Unitarian*Universalist record. . .

It might interest U*Us to know that, when I attempted to post this comment to 'The Right Thing To Do' thread on Rev. Daniel Harper's 'Yet Another Unitarian*Universalist' blog, the following message was displayed on my screen -

Regex ID: 1250 (emersonavenger) appears to be an invalid regex string!

Please fix it in the Blacklist control panel.

It seems however that my pithy comment somehow evaded U*U minister Rev. Daniel Harper's "Blacklist control panel" though.

For now anyway. . .

Yet Another Unitarian*Universalist "Memory Hole". . .

The following blog post was originally posted as a comment to this thread titled The right thing to do on Rev. Dan Harper's Yet Another Unitarian*Universalist blog. I archived it as a draft post here just in case Rev. Dan Harper decided in his wisdom to relegate my post to the burgeoning "memory hole" of the U*U World.

He did. . .

I have corrected a minor typo or two, and I have added some pertinent hyperlinks here and there that were not in the original text only comment -

"Of course you welcome any all visitors to your church, treating them like honored guests;"

If only that were true. I need not remind you how Montreal Unitarian U*Us "welcomed" and "honored" me but the fact of the matter is that a great many other people feel far from welcome and considerably less than honored in many U*U "Welcoming Congregations". This is precisely why I and other people are not impressed by the UUA's new national marketing campaign which puts the marketing cart before the welcoming horse. . .

My own experience of U*Uism, and that of many other people, is that much U*U "church marketing" is highly misleading publicity and even outright false advertising. AFAIAC the UUA may well be flushing a few million dollars worth of national "church marketing" down the proverbial toilet. Worse than that the UUA's national marketing campaign could very well have an overall negative effect if it does attract a large number of new people to visit and even join U*U "churches" only to find that they are less than welcome and far from honored as guests or "church" members. The resulting fallout in terms of negative word of mouth publicity could potentially outweigh any gains made by the UUA's multi-million dollar national advertising campaign.

IMNSHO The millions would have been much better spent in any number of other ways, not the least of them being an internal educational campaign encouraging U*Us to be genuinely welcoming towards visitors to your church, and treating them like honored guests. I have heard so many stories about people getting the cold shoulder when visiting U*U "Welcoming Congregations" and experienced it myself last summer when I visited the Unitarian Church in San Francisco. I actually said hello to U*Us who simply ignored me. . . No I have no reason whatsoever to believe that my reputation preceded me and they did not know who I was in any case. The "church" did have an official "greeter" whose main function seemed to be to "market" the "church" by encouraging people to join it, but pretty much everyone else pretended that I was not even there. It was like being the invisible man or something. . . Most ironically, the few people who did introduce themselves to me were all non-members, albeit apparently regular "visitors" of the Unitarian "Church" of San Francisco.

UUA President Bill Sinkford Announces A National Marketing Campaign For U*Uism

A work in progress. . .

UU World editor Chris Walton has just posted an announcement on his Philocrites blog that UUA is announcing a national marketing campaign. It will be most interesting to see to what extent this U*U marketing campaign will consist of misleading or outright false advertising. . . The UUA`s official announcements of this national marketing campaign already contain have a few questionable claims. For example, in his letter Announcing the UUA's National Marketing Campaign on the UUA web site, UUA President Bill Sinkford gushes, "We are preparing to launch the first national marketing campaign for Unitarian Universalism in fifty years!" The UUA web page takes this questionable claim a step further by saying, "Starting in early October the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) will launch its first national media campaign in over 50 years!"

It seems to me that, according to these claims, this national marketing campaign for U*Uism is the *only* national marketing campaign that the UUA has ever undertaken, and that President Bill Sinkford and other UUA marketing genuises are blissfully unaware of the fact that UUA Unitarian*Universalism aka U*Uism has yet to reach the age of 50. . . The UUA could not have launched a national marketing campaign 50 years ago, let alone over 50 years ago, since the UUA and thus Unitarian*Universalism did not even exist 50 years ago. OK so I`m admittedly being somewhat anal about this 50 year thing, but why didn`t marketing genius UUA President Bill Sinkford just say that this U*U marketing campaign is the first national marketing campaign for U*Uism that the UUA has ever undertaken? After all it`s not like the UUA could have actually had a national marketing campaign for U*Uism over 50 years ago. N`est-ce pas?

According to Chris Walton, "The campaign involves full-page ads in Time, a print-online sponsorship of Time's religion articles archive, and online advertising at time.com. Resources available so far include UUA President Bill Sinkford's letter to congregations introducing the campaign, an expanded description of the October-December advertising initiative in Time magazine, information about a DVD introducing Unitarian Universalism that will be mailed to all congregations later this month. . ."

One of the slogans on the UUA`s web page announcing the advertising campaign says -

Nurture Your Spirit, Help Heal Our World

Surely if U*Us want to help heal the world they would be much better off nuturing the spirit of their fellow human beings rather than jsut themselves as individuals, or does the phrase "Our World" mean only the U*U World? Even if this was the case, surely it would be better to suggest that U*Us nurture the spirit of their fellow U*Us rather than just their own individual spirits in order to heal the U*U World. Here is my slightly reworked version of that questionable U*U slogan -

Nurture An U*U Soul, Help The Heels Of The U*U World

According to the UUA web site - The campaign is designed to:

Inspire members to take greater pride in their identity as Unitarian*Universalists

Encourage Unitarian*Universalists to invite friends and family to visit congregations

Raise name recognition of Unitarian*Universalism

Give Unitarian*Universalism a voice in the national discourse about faith.

If this is true then it seems that running full page U*U "advertorials" in Time magazine may be marketing overkill since the first two claimed objectives could be achieved via internal publicity and PR. The third objective is may also be somewhat redundant in that U*Us, or at least "Unitarians", already have a fair bit of national "name recognition" thanks to regular mentions of Unitarians in 'The Simpsons' cartoons, to say nothing of Garrison Keillor's free publicity for U*Us on his "A Prairie Home Companion" show. As far as giving Unitarian*Universalism a voice in the national discourse about faith goes it will be most interesting to see just how this national advertising campaign for U*Uism actually plays out over the coming months and years. This national advertising campaign could be a wash out, or even backfire badly. . . if the end result is that it raises public consciousness to what a mess U*Uism is these days.

BTW While I have been writing this post someone by the name of Dudley Jones decided to post this pithy comment to the Philocrites blog post:

Will this presentation be candid about how intensely many UUs dislike the religion of their neighbors?

Chris Walton has responded to him by saying, "Dudley, some of the information for congregations is aimed at helping UUs become genuinely welcoming. This work will be challenging for some people, but I can only hope that a growing number of UUs are learning how to disagree without being disagreeable."

Hope against hope Chris but you just might be engaging in what Rev. Charles Eddis calls "wishful thinking". . . Thanks anyway for publicly acknowledging that rather too many U*Us can indeed be more than a little bit "disagreeable" towards those they disagree with.

Tom Stites Take A HaikU Asterisk U. . .

Four clever haiku poems dedicated to hypocritical U*U Souls in general, and particularly hypocritical U*U Soul, former UU World editor Tom Stites, in particular. . .

These four haiku poems are adaptations of the four haikus of former UU World editor Tom Stites that were published in the UU World propaganda organ a while back.

Straight from the horse's U*U sorta. . .

In our contemporary culture of Unitarian*Universalist hubris, U*Us are desperately short of humility, and focusing outside ourselves creates a seedbed for it. The words human, humility, and humus come from the same ancient Indo-European root meaning soil. Like all parts of nature, we U*Us come from the soilfrom the dust or, in the view of science, from the stardust — and we will return to it. Haiku ensures humility because it keeps U*Us close to the soil we came from and thus will admit none of the strutting and cleverness that fuel most other writing.

With haiku, the ego must stand aside.

What Does 'Truth, Justice' Mean At Your U*U Church?

The following is a slight reworking of a question that U*U World editor Chris Walton posed on this interesting post on his Philocrites blog. Yes I did post this as a comment there (twice now. . .) but, being the U*U that he is, Chris Walton quickly relegated my comments to his big fat U*U "memory*hole".

If this article were about your congregation, would you be more indignant at the reporter, the organization sponsoring the event, the minister aka plaintiff, the congregation, or the defendant?

Rev. Diane Rollert - "Damsel In Distress" Or "Dragon Lady"?

Here is the full unexpurgated text of the follow-up letter to the editor that I am about to submit to Montreal's only English language daily 'The Gazette' in response to Irwin Block's news report titled 'Man Contests Minister's Bid For Restraining Order'. I expect that it is rather too long to be published intact and will be edited, if it is published at all. . . so I am making the full version available here. As is my habit I am embedding hyperlinks to pertinent web pages or Google searches so that U*Us, and indeed non-U*Us, can enter into a free and responsible search for the truth and meaning of the larger and more complex conflict that this brand spanking new letter to the editor arises from -

Letter To The Editor re. 'Man Contests Minister's Bid For Restraining Order'

Rev. Diane Rollert has no "reasonable grounds" to fear that I will commit "a serious personal injury offence" against her or any other member of the Unitarian Church of Montreal. There is no threat of physical harm whatsoever in the emails that she describes as "email threats" in her highly questionable declarations to the police. The full text of those emails may be read on The Emerson Avenger blog that exposes the U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy (not "theological issues" as reported) that I am protesting against. Just Google "Rev. Diane Rollert" to find the blog and pertinent posts.

The very fact that not a single Montreal Unitarian, including those most responsible for harming me. . . has ever suffered the slightest physical injury caused by me in the near decade that I have been peacefully protesting in front of their so-called "church" casts considerable "reasonable doubt" on the trumped up criminal charges that Rev. Rollert has so cynically and hypocritically brought against me. In that I have been the victim of genuine threats of assault (including one threat that a 911 operator characterized as "death threats". . .), as well as several physical assaults committed by Montreal Unitarians, I have rather more "reasonable grounds" to fear that a belligerent Montreal U*U might in future commit a "serious personal injury offence" against me. I felt it necessary to bring criminal charges against two of these belligerent Montreal U*Us. They both copped pleas and were subjected to "non-judicial treatment" for their criminal acts against me.

Unitarian*Universalists aka U*Us fraudulently claim to be "opposed to censorship by church, state, or any other institution" in their deceptive religious propaganda, but censorship and suppression of criticism and dissent, especially when it criticizes U*U clergy misconduct. . . is all too common in this uncommonly hypocritical denomination. Montreal U*Us have given a whole new meaning to the term "police harassment" by calling in numerous spurious complaints to the Montreal police force. This is now the second time that stunningly hypocritical Montreal U*Us have attempted to impose U*U "church" censorship on my Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guaranteed right to peaceful public protest by cynically misusing and abusing the "state" laws of the Canadian Criminal Code in their deeply misguided efforts to force an end to my legal and peaceful public protest. I was rightly acquitted of the first trumped up criminal charge of disturbing the order or solemnity of religious worship and I fully expect to be vindicated in this case.

Rev. Diane Rollert has most ironically synthesized the archetypal role of the "Knight in (not so) Shining Armour" boldly championing her "church", with that of the helpless and victimized "damsel in distress". From where I stand however, she is looking a lot like the archetypal "Dragon-Lady". I have very reasonable grounds to believe that Rev. Rollert is knowingly and willfully lying to the police in claiming to be "very frightened" of me in a very ill-advised effort to obtain a restraining order that would suspend my protest in front of her "church" for a year or less. If however she genuinely is "very frightened" of me, I can only politely suggest that she might benefit from seeking some "professional help" to responsibly address her unfounded irrational fears aka paranoid delusions.

Sincerely,

Robin Edgar

P.S. Although my current legal name is Robert Edgar I am commonly known as Robin Edgar and have been known as Robin Edgar by family, friends, and associates for all my life. I am told that an Anglican priest botched my christening. . . Please use the name Robin Edgar in publishing this letter to the editor and in any future Gazette news reports or other articles about me.
