Growing Unitarian Universalism And UUA Clergy Sexual Misconduct - What's The Connection?
How about this comment that I posted in response to a Unitarian Universalist asking about what "growth" means to Unitarian Universalists in a certain Unitarian Universalist Facbook group?
Whenever I see Unitarian Universalist clergy and UUA leaders talk about "growth" they are always speaking in terms of increasing membership in individual UU congregations, and the UUA as a whole. I have never seen them speak about growth in the sense of "the spiritual maturity of each member", or a "congregation's ability to maintain its health and engage the world", or "making real and living the values of the congregants in the world".
Perhaps
if they did so, Unitarian Universalism would actually increase in
membership, but UUism continues to decline because UUA congregations not
only FAIL to maintain their health, and FAIL in making real and living
the values of Unitarian Universalism in the world, but obstinately
refuse to do so. All too often I see Unitarian Universalists, including
UUA clergy and top-level UUA leadership such as UUA Presidents and UUA
Moderators, making a total mockery of the claimed principles and ideals
of Unitarian Universalism.
Whatever happened to that National Conversation On Clergy Misconduct that was supposed to take place in the mid-2010s?
I see no sign of that ever actually happening.
This is just one of the many ways the UUA continues to FAIL to live up to its own empty rhetoric.
