The Emerson Avenger

The Emerson Avenger is a "memory hole" free blog where censorship is scorned. This blog will "guard the right to know" about any injustices and abuses that corrupt Unitarian Universalism. Posters may speak and argue freely, according to conscience, about any injustices and abuses, or indeed hypocrisy, that they may know about so that the Avenger, in the form of justice and redress, may come surely and swiftly. . . "Slowly, slowly the Avenger comes, but comes surely." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

In 1992 I underwent a profound revelatory experience of God which revealed that the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" is a "Sign in the Heavens" that symbolizes God's divine omniscience. You may read about what Rev. Ray Drennan of the Unitarian Church of Montreal contemptuously dismissed as my "psychotic experience" here: - This revelatory religious experience inspired me to propose an inter-religious celebration of Creation that would take place whenever a total solar eclipse took place over our planet. You may read about what Rev. Ray Drennan and other leading members of the Unitarian Church of Montreal falsely and maliciously labeled as a "cult" here: - I am now an excommunicated Unitarian whose "alternative spiritual practice" includes publicly exposing and denouncing Unitarian*Universalist injustices, abuses, and hypocrisy. The Emerson Avenger blog will serve that purpose for me and hopefully others will share their concerns here. Dee Miller's term DIM Thinking is used frequently and appropriately on this blog. Rev. Peter Morales' YouTube Video Announcing His Candidacy For President Of The UUA Has Had Only 674 Views Since January 23, 2008. . .

That's right, UUA Presidential candidate Rev. Peter Morales' YouTube video of his sermon cum "stump speech", in which he announced his candidacy for President of the UUA over a year ago on January 13, 2008 at the Jefferson Unitarian Church in Golden, Colorado, has had only 674 views since it was posted to YouTube ten days after his sermon on January 23, 2008. This would seem to indicate a lack of interest in Rev. Peter Morales' campaign to become the next President of the UUA if it were not for the fact that the YouTube video of Rev. Dr. Laurel Hallman's January 6, 2008 announcement that she is running for UUA President has had significantly fewer views at only 437. Perhaps there just isn't a whole lot of interest in the 2009 UUA Presidential election campaign at all. . . Heck several of my own U*UTube videos of my peaceful public protest against U*U injustices, abuses, and hypocrisy in front of the Unitrarian Church of Montreal have had more views on a day to day basis than the U*UTube videos of both UUA Presidential candidates. What gives?

Here are the as yet unanswered questions that I posed to Rev. Peter Morales by posting them as comments on this YouTube video about ten months ago now -

So Peter what do you intend to do to address the hatred, injustice, prejudice, ignorance and fear that pervades the U*U World?

When will you and other U*Us provide genuine justice, equity and compassion to victims of U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy?

How much openness and acceptance of God believing people can there be in the U*U World when intolerant fundamentalist atheist "Humanist" U*Us, including U*U clergy, are allowed to insult and abuse God believing people with complete impunity?

Here is the follow-up comment that I posted seven months later, i.e. about three months ago now, after Rev. Morales failed, or simply refused, to answer those questions -

A hate to have to say so Rev. Morales but, as things currently stand, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been rather more forthcoming and forthright in answering some rather lame questions posed to him by current UUA President Bill Sinkford than you have been in answering these and other legitimate questions and concerns posed to you by me and other people. Do you really want President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to appear to be a more forthcoming and forthright leader than you? I would hope not.

end quote

That being said, it would appear from Ogre's comments on this recent ChaliceChick blog post that UUA Presidential candidate Rev. Dr. Laurel Hallman is no more forthcoming than Rev. Peter Morales when it comes to answering legitimate questions posed to her by people outside of the context of the prepared questions posed to both candidates during UUA Presidential Candidates forums and debates. I find it rather sad that, at least to date, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been rather more forthcoming and forthright in answering a few questions posed to him by current UUA President Bill Sinkford than either UUA candidate has been in answering these and other legitimate questions and concerns that have been posed to them by me and other people. Allow me to remind everyone that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad completely ignored all but one of UUA President Bill Sinkford's rather lame "diplomatic" questions and only answered that one in a lengthy evasive manner as reported on the official UUA website report about his participation in the 'Fellowship of Reconciliation' meetings with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. In spite of being largely ignored and thus effectively snubbed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, UUA President Bill Sinkford even had the gall to snarkily remark -

"I could not imagine the current U.S. president taking the time to honor questions about his actions the way Ahmadinejad did today."

It is most regrettable that the current UUA Presidential candidates are even less forthcoming than Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad when it comes to honoring questions about their own words and actions. . .

Was The Deutsche Unitarier Religionsgemeinschaft Subverted By Neo-Nazi Ideologues, Including Former SS Officers Convicted Of War Crimes?

Oops! It looks like I accidentally prematurely published a post that I was working on as inspired by the comment below that I posted to ChaliceChick's blog earlier tonight. These things happen. . . I have other priorities right now but will turn this into a proper post later -

BTW Sometimes when *I* look at U*U *I* think about those disturbing allegations about "Unit*Aryan" Nazi ideologues "steeplejacking" the Deutsche Unitarier Religionsgemeinschaft following WWII. I must say that, all things considered, I find this particular "corporate identity" logo that the Deutsche Unitarier Religionsgemeinschaft has adopted to be quite interesting. . .

Actually Rev. Dr. Tim Jensen *IS* Pretty Good At Throwing Himself In The Proverbial Toilet. . .

Just saying. . . :-)

"Ouch! No, really - Ouch! Somedays I just want to throw in the towel, throw myself in the toilet after it, and never preach another sermon again. And people tell me I’m actually pretty good at it…."

The Eclectic Cleric aka Rev. Dr. Tim Jensen

Personally I think that Rev. Tim Jensen aka *the* Reverend Doctor Timothy W. Jensen, and a whole lot of other foolish U*U hypocrites, "less than excellent" U*U ministers or otherwise, are pathologically allergic to responsibly throwing in the towel when they have clearly lost an argument. Would that they actually were pretty good at it. . .

Is Famous Unitarian Thomas Jefferson Numbered Amongst Famous White Supremacists As Well?

Just asking. . .

Thankfully evidence supporting the recent arguments of some Unitarian*Universalist U*Us that White Supremacist U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, aka rather *too* Honest Abe, was a closet Universalist (to say nothing of a Log Cabin Republican) is not all that convincing.

Is Unitarian*Universalism An "UNSAFE SECT"?! UUA Negligence And Incompetence In Responding To Clergy Misconduct And Other U*U Safety Issues Make It So

Here is the comment that I just submitted to the 'Even Unitarians Can Be Succinct. See?' blog post on Liz James' 'Chalicelight Hearthfire' blog in which she challenged Unitarian*Universalists aka U*Us to come up with a six word story about Unitarian*Universalism aka U*Uism. . .

I can be a bit of a verbal hemophiliac myself but I can also be extremely succinct when I put my mind to it. How about two words -

Specifically referring to the fact that Unitarian*Universalism has a very poor track record when it comes to dealing with clergy misconduct of all kinds, including clergy sexual misconduct, and/or other internal injustices and abuses that make U*U congregations unsafe according to the UUA's own definition of what constitute Safe Congregations.

Does UUA Stand for Unitarian Universalist Assholes?!!

Just asking. . . :-)

Update Saturday February 21, 2009:

I of all people should have known that this blog post would almost immediately displace the official UUA website as the top level result for a Google search on -

Unitarian Universalist Assholes

Still, I am somewhat surprised to see that the offical UUA aka Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations website no longer appears at all in *that* particular Google search. Of course I *also* knew that sometimes it *is* best to leave well enough alone. . .

Peacebang's Beauty Tips On How To Spot The "Less Than Excellent" aka Ugly U*Unitarian Minister - An Observational "Eat-Your-Words-Diet" Rant

1. He and/or She will be the only one stinking of skunk piss in the "less than crowded" "church".

2. He and/or She will refer to him and/or herself as "an U*U" and when asked where he and/or she lives, he and/or she will say "the U*U World." He and/or She will frequently pepper his and/or her conversation with observations about what it’s like in "America," never realizing that he and/or she is behaving like a total chode. Dude, the U*U World is a tiny, declining, fringe religion. Look into it. "*The* Tiny Declining Fringe Religion" is the name of your "church". Learn it. There’s even a handy nickname - "The U*U Movement". . . U*Use it and abU*Use it.

3. He and/or She will think his and/or her hideous pronunciation of English is charming and make no effort whatsoever to attune his and/or her ear to the language of the Seven Principles.

4. He and/or She will dispense with all formalities such as "Please" or "Thank you" or "You're welcome" or "I'm sorry." He and/or She will misuse the Statue of Liberty's torch even with senators.

5. He and/or She will never ask "Is this permissible?" before snapping at people.

6. He and/or She will dominate the conversation with tales of his and/or her travels, repeating the same exact stories every U*U Dude Traveler before him and/or her has ever recounted. These stories will feature how dirty someplace was, how much money he/she had stolen somewhere else, and how totally pasty he and/or she got from the ghost of Whomever.

7. He and/or She will not say "I'm sorry" or "I apologize" to "the victim."

8. He and/or She will not leave a tip, and because he and/or she has less money than anyone else in real terms, he and/or she will constantly gripe about expenses.

9. He and/or She only smiles at women and/or men he and/or she’d like to bed (which does not include anyone over the age of 109). You can find him and/or her at any local "church" talking the ear off a patient, "blind" female and/or male parishioner.

10. He and/or She flames even where it clearly says "No Flaming*."

Where In The U*U World Has Gini Courter Been Since A Concerned White Citizen Of Canada Demanded Restorative Justice For U*U Clergy Misconduct Victims?

Over a year ago. . . To say nothing of earlier "electronic communications" or other communications that she may have been aware of even if they were not directly addressed to her.

Here is the comment that I just submitted to the 'The Concerned White Citizens of Alabama' post of UUA Moderator Gini Courter's brand-spanking new 'Just Gini' blog. It is unlikely to be seen by concerned 97% white WASU*Us, or U*Us of any particular skin color, since UUA Moderator Gini Courter finally got around to enabling comment moderation on her blog after "memory holing" all of the comments that I had previously successfully submitted to it -

But where have *you* been Gini since I sent you this "electronic communication" over a year ago?

What steps have *you* taken to ensure that the UUA actually provides some genuine and tangible restorative justice for ALL victims of U*U clergy misconduct instead of just emptily, and apparently insincerely, talking about it?

Restorative Justice For UU Clergy Misconduct Victims
Thursday, January 18, 2007 8:57 PM

From: "Robin Edgar"

To:, "Bill Sinkford"

Thorsday January 18, 2007

Dear UUA Trustees,

I notice that “Restorative Justice” is one of the items on the agenda of the January 2007 UUA Board of Trustees meetings. I have been seeking some genuine restorative justice for myself and other victims of abusive clergy misconduct by UU ministers for some time now but to no avail whatsoever. The UUA, its Ministerial Fellowship Committee, and more recently its department Congregational Services, have consistently and quite obstinately refused to provide the slightest restorative justice in response to my serious grievances that arise out of deeply insulting, defamatory, and verbally and psychologically abusive attacks on me by UU ministers. I might add that the two UU ministers whose unbecoming conduct I have complained about have subjected other people to deeply insulting and/or defamatory attacks. The responses of the UUA's Ministerial Fellowship Committee and department Congregational Services to my serious grievances about unbecoming conduct by intolerant and abusive UU clergy have not only been clearly negligent, they have effectively condoned, and thus have been complicit in, the verbally and psychologically abusive clergy misconduct that I have brought to their attention. In fact one of the reasons that I have never received any “restorative justice” from the UUA is because the UUA has quite consciencelessly refused to even acknowledge that I have suffered from any injustice.

Anyone who bothers to responsibly investigate my grievances against Rev. Ray Drennan, formerly of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, can readily see that I was subjected to demeaning and abusive insulting and defamatory attacks on my monotheistic religious beliefs and practices by an intolerant atheist “Humanist” UU minister. If you are not already familiar with my case Rev. Ray Drennan mocked and ridiculed my religious beliefs by labeling them as “silliness and fantasy”, contemptuously dismissed the profound revelatory religious experience that I was trying to explain to him as “your psychotic experience”, and falsely and maliciously labeled an inter-religious celebration of Creation that I had successfully organized as “your cult.” For more details I suggest running appropriate Google searches. According to the Executive of the UUA's Ministerial Fellowship Committee, under the directorship of Rev. Diane Miller, this obvious and egregious example of an atheist “Humanist” UU minister's anti-religious intolerance and bigotry “seemed to us to be within the appropriate guidelines of ministerial leadership.” To date the UUA, and its obviously negligent and effectively complicit Ministerial Fellowship Committee, have never backed away from this obviously untenable position and have refused to reopen and re-examine my clergy misconduct complaint against Rev. Ray Drennan.

More recently I discovered that “Christian” UU minister Rev. Victoria Weinstein had attacked me on her pseudonymous Peacebang blog. In light of her continued offensive and remarkably hypocritical attacks on other people, and even other religious groups, on her Peacebang blog; attacks that the vast majority of people of intelligence and conscience would consider to be most unbecoming of a minister, I decided to file an unbecoming conduct complaint against Rev. Weinstein in order to to determine if there has been any improvement in the UUA's handling of clergy misconduct complaints. The email exchanges between me and the director of Congregational Services Rev. Dr. Tracey Robinson-Harris, and the new Executive Secretary of the Ministerial Fellowship Committee Rev. Beth Miller will show that the UUA is still responding to complaints about unbecoming conduct by its ministers in a manner that is not only quite negligent but which effectively condones their unbecoming conduct. I have posted these recent email exchanges to The Emerson Avenger blog so that UUs, and indeed non-UUs. . . can make up their own minds about how the UUA responds to verbally and psychologically abusive unbecoming conduct by UU ministers. I am very confident that most non-UUs will agree that the UUA's response is both negligent, and effectively complicit in, unbecoming conduct by UU clergy.

You may read the email exchanges on these threads and I would urge you to do so -

You may also wish to read this thread which represents public response to those email exchanges -

The fact of the matter is that The Emerson Avenger blog probably would not even exist if the UUA and its Ministerial Fellowship Committee had responded in a responsible manner to my initial complaints against Rev. Ray Drennan, or had conceded to my subsequent demands that my original complaint be re-opened and re-examined in 2002. The Emerson Avenger blog exists precisely because U*Us have consistently, and quite obstinately, refused to provide anything even remotely resembling genuine justice, equity, and compassion in response to my legitimate and quite serious grievances arising from intolerant and abusive clergy misconduct by UU clergy. The two UU ministers who I filed clergy misconduct complaints against are clearly guilty of conduct unbecoming a minister not only in terms of how they have behaved towards me, but in well documented intolerant and abusive or insulting and defamatory attacks on other people or groups.

I recently invited UUA President William G. Sinkford to start practicing what he preaches by engaging in what he and other UUs call “waging peace” with me, and other victims of clergy misconduct of various kinds, by waging some genuine restorative justice for all victims of all forms of clergy misconduct by UU ministers, not just clergy sexual misconduct.

To date I have not received so much as an acknowledgement of receipt of that R.S.V.P. invitation in spite of follow-up requests for a formal response from President Sinkford. President Sinkford has so far been completely silent and apparently very passive in response to my invitation to begin “waging peace” by waging some genuine restorative justice, equity and compassion in human relations with me and other victims of U*U injustices and abuses. It would thus appear that President Bill Sinkford is most regrettably quite intent on declining my invitation to begin waging peace. If I do not receive a positive response to that R.S.V.P. invitation by the end of next week at the very latest I will consider my invitation to begin waging peace with me to have been formally declined by President Sinkford.

That R.S.V.P. invitation is open to all other UUs so I am now inviting UUA Trustees to begin waging peace by taking responsible and effective steps to ensure that some genuine restorative justice is finally provided for me and other victims of UU clergy misconduct, to say nothing of victims of various other internal injustices and abuses. I believe that I have already made my own personal expectations quite clear in previous communications with the UUA so I will not repeat them in detail here. I call upon all UUA Trustees to live up to both the letter and the spirit of President Bill Sinkford's Holiday Message about restoring hope and waging peace by doing the right thing and doing everything in their power to provide genuine restorative justice to me and all other victims of diverse injustices and abuses that have been initially perpetrated by U*U clergy, but have subsequently been aggravated, escalated, and perpetuated by the negligence and institutional stonewalling and denial of the UUA and MFC etc. that condones, and thus is effectively complicit in, unbecoming and abusive clergy misconduct of all kinds.

Does Gini Courter *Really* Want To Be "Moderator for Life" aka "Life Moderator" Of The UUA?

Quite serendipitously Reverend Gary Kowalski, the author of 'Revolutionary Spirits: The Enlightened Faith of America's Founding Fathers', and minister of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington, Vermont, has shared his concerns about how news sources in Caracas reported on President’s Day that Hugo Chávez won a referendum allowing the socialist leader to continue running for president of Venezuela indefinitely. . . On today's 'President For Life?' post of his Revolutionary Spirits blog. Rev. Gary Kowalski says -

"Whether you love him or hate him, you have to admit that the prospect of Chávez – or anyone – as ruler for life is a scarey (sic) proposition."

I guess U*Us could just as easily say -

"Whether you love her or hate her, you have to admit that the prospect of Gini Courter – or anyone – as UUA Moderator for life is a scarey (sic) proposition."

In that, just within the last few days, an anonymous commenter has posted a comment to my 'UUA President Bill Sinkford Stands On The Side Of Love For Victims Of U*U Clergy Misconduct By Doing Absolutely Nothing. . .' blog post containing an "unsubstantiated rumor" to the effect that current UUA Moderator Gini Courter is very concerned with "gaining as much power as possible within the UUA Board and the association" and that "there are rumors that she wants to change the bylaws to be permanent moderator without term limits" I find Rev. Kowalski's sharing of his concerns to be most timely. Knowing what I know about how UUA politics work, or indeed how U*U "church" politics work more generally throughout the U*U World, it occurs to me that Rev. Gary Kowalski may even be aware of these unsubstantiated rumors about UUA Moderator Gini Courter seeking to become "UUA Moderator for Life" aka "UUA Life Moderator", or at least to be able to continue running for Moderator of the UUA indefinitely. . . and this is his way of sharing his concerns about these rumors about the alleged "dream" of Gini without directly addressing these rumors themselves.

Without further ado here are the two comments that I just submitted to the "President For Life?' post of Rev. Gary Kowalski's 'Revolutionary Spirits' blog -

First comment -

Interestingly enough an anonymous commenter recently posted an unsubstantiated rumor to the effect that UUA Moderator Gini Courter is seeking to modify UUA bylaws in order to become "permanent moderator without term limits". I personally find this rumor hard to believe, albeit not entirely impossible to believe. . . so maybe some concerned U*Us should enter into a free and responsible search for just how much, or how little, truth this rumor is founded upon.

BTW How long has Kathleen Montgomery been the Executive Vice-President of the UUA, and to what extent, if any, is she a Cheney-esque "power behind the throne" at 25 Beacon Street?

Follow-up second comment -

One more thing. . .

Regardless of what the answers to my previous comments and questions may be, it would appear that the greater U*U World is not completely free from "Unitarian Church" leaders who manage to obtain the title "Life President". . . Sometimes* I *really* do wonder about what passes for "democracy" in the U*U World.

* Make that most of the time. . .

UUA Moderator Gini Courter Might Be Well Advised To Start Stocking Up On Lots Of Tomato Juice. . .

According to this somewhat dated interview with now less than brand-spanking new UUA Moderator Gini Courter, Gini has two cats named Data and Sherman, and an "unintentional pet". . .

The skunk living in the woodshed.

Gini Courter is on public record as saying -

"Part of my life focus is keeping the intentional and the unintentional pets separate. . .

When I'm unsuccessful, I shop for large cans of tomato juice."

UUA Moderator Gini Courter might be very well advised to start stocking up on large cans of tomato juice, because some other "less than excellent" intentional pets of the UUA are quite likely to get into a pissing match with *this* skunk in the next little while if she and other UUA leaders continue to abjectly fail, or indeed obstinately refuse. . . to *demonstrably* stand on the side of love for *ALL* victims of U*U clergy misconduct, clergy sexual misconduct or otherwise, between now and the 2009 UUA GA in Salt Lake City.

Gini Courter UUA Moderator And Less Than Just U*U "Moderator" aka Censor Gets Taught A Lesson About Justice By The Emerson Avenger. . .

It didn't take UUA Moderator Gini Courter *too* long to "memory hole" aka delete aka remove aka censor and suppress the critical comment that I successfully posted to the 'Sojourn to the Past – a sidetrip' post of her brand-spanking new 'Just Gini' blog yesterday. That comment, which played off of words in that blog post to serve as a reminder to Gini Courter about my requests/demands for genuine and tangible restorative justice for ALL victims of U*U clergy misconduct, is no longer readable there. It may however be read on my 'Gini's Got a Blog' post that reproduced my critical comment in anticipation of Gini Courter's silencing aka institutional cover-up and denial of my "obviously deep concerns" about U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy. Presumably Gini Courter's 'Just Gini' blog title only means 'Only Gini' aka 'Exclusively Gini' aka 'Less Than Inclusive Gini', rather than 'Honorable And Fair Gini' aka 'Morally Right Gini' aka 'Justice Making Gini'. . .

Strangely enough, even ironically enough in light of her position as UUA *Moderator*, Gini Courter did not enable the blog moderation function on her 'Just Gini' blog after having less than wisely chosen her fate of "memory holing" aka covering-up and hiding my initial comment on it.

I submitted a follow-up comment saying -

That was less than wise Gini.

Less than *just* too AFA*I*AC. . .

and, when it became clear that Gini had not dreamt of moderating her 'Just Gini' blog just yet, I successfully submitted the following second follow-up comment -

The lesson *IS* when you see something that is an injustice, something that is wrong, say something Gini. To say nothing of *DO* something *JUST* Gini. . .

Time will tell if UUA Moderator Gini Courter responsibly acts upon these and other "electronic communications" that she has received from me in a manner that actually lives up to aka honors and upholds the Seven Principles of Unitarian*Universalism, other UUA bylaws, policies and guidelines etc., and U*U religious rhetoric like 'Stand On The Side Of Love' rather than flagrantly disregarding them and even outright violating them as would appear to be her wont so far. . .

Just saying.

Here is the questioning comment that I just successfully submitted to UUA Moderator Gini Courter's brand-spanking new, and as yet unmoderated aka uncensored, 'Just Gini' blog on a blog post entitled 'Sojourn to the Past – a sidetrip' -

When are you and the UUA going to get around to doing the right thing Gini? Rev. Dr. W. Frederick Wooden Is PlagU*Urized By *The* Rev. Dr. Eric Theodore Cartman III To Provide A Jibe For The Oblivious. . . The Nerve Of Him!

Rev. Dr. W. Frederick Wooden spoke on courage today, because it is something he was not given in abundance. Maybe he needs to become a U*Unitarian, as they have nerves of steel (or something else made of brass, forgive me) for U*Unitarians in Boston to say they stand on the side of love. . . That is two faced, friends. Love is not another word for, "Please sir, may I have a gay marriage."

Now, U*U can be the Ministerial *Fellowship* Committee, defending your idiotic stand all you want. But U*U cannot defend your own position without real compromise and then criticize someone else for not giving in to it.

When someone says he is willing to play ball, but the other person then insists on playing by her rules (which seem to include seeking a restraining order at the outset), to call the first fellow "psychotic" is either delusional (which makes U*Us crazy) or deceitful (which makes U*Us vile).

U*U idiocy drove your reputation off a cliff, made the Seven Principles into scrap paper and convinced believers to go somewhere else. He was being nice to you, a good sport in the world I grew up in. U*U are like those sore losers from my childhood who pretend they didn't lose, hoping to change reality by refusing to accept it.

But that's the sort of thinking that made U*Uism a tiny, declining, fringe religion. Go ahead, bite the hand extended.

Next time U*U'll get a rolled up newspaper on the nose.

Thomas Paine Joins The RevolU*Ution! Unitarian*Universalists Should Lead, Follow, Or Get Out Of The Way When It Comes To Co-Operating With God. . .

Boston Unitarian posted the conclusion of a Rev. Henry Wilder Foote sermon today.

The concluding paragraph of that sermon said the following -

"The only solution is the double truth: that God has not finished but is still making His world; and that He does not work in this alone, but calls for the co-operation of man and nature with Him."

This brought to *my* mind Thomas Paine's famous saying -

"Lead, follow, or get out of the way."

Here is the comment that I submitted for Boston Unitarian's consideration as to whether or not to post it to his "moderated" Unitarian blog. To post or not to post, *that* is the question. . .

It would be nice if Unitarian*Universalists tried a little harder to co-operate with God. To quote Thomas Paine, U*Us need to lead, follow, or get out of the way when it comes to co-operating with God but all too often U*Us are in the way these days. . .

UUA President Bill Sinkford Stands On The Side Of Love For Victims Of U*U Clergy Misconduct By Doing Absolutely Nothing. . .

to provide the slightest restorative justice for ALL victims of U*U clergy misconduct as requested/demanded in my Open Letter of January 15th 2009, to say nothing of earlier. . . Needless to say, pretty much the same can be said for UUA Moderator Gini Courter and any and all other members of the UUA Board of Trustees. Certainly I have not received the slightest communication from any of these "good Unitarians" indicating any readiness or willingness on their part to provide some genuine and tangible restorative justice for all victims of U*U clergy misconduct.

Anti-Conservative Anti-Republican Unitarian Universalist U*U Hate Speech ALSO Inspired Jim Adkisson's Murderous Attack On The TVUUC In Knoxville TN

Not unexpectedly aka unsurprisingly Seattle based freelance journalist David Neiwert has joined the "Amen Choir" of Unitarian*Universalist bloggers who are pointing the proverbial finger directly at right-wing "shock jocks" Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, and Ann Coulter* et al, for being the inspiration of Jim David Adkisson's murderous assault on the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. In a blog post entitled 'We can see why Bernie Goldberg's book was an inspiration to the Knoxville church gunman' posted on the less than lucky date of Friday the 13th February, 2009, David Neiwart says -

The manifesto he composed before his murderous rampage was just released; you can read the whole thing here [pdf file], and it's worth reading in its entirety for a number of reasons. But I especially took note of Part III:

This was a symbolic killing. Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate & House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg's book. I'd like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I know those people were inaccessible to me. I couldn't get to the generals & high ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the chickenshit liberals that vote in these traitorous people. Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It's the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence.

David Neiwert then goes on to say -

But merely pointing out the obvious, common-sense connection between O'Reilly's reckless rhetoric and Jim David Adkisson's murderous political-terror spree is enough to bring down O'Reilly's wrath.

Note how Neiwart frames the story: Nowhere does he mention that Adkisson not only knew Unitarian*Universalists personally, and heard what is said about conservatives in the Unitarian*Universalist Church, but he was openly acting on the scapegoating of conservatives contained therein. . . Like every single other Unitarian*Universalist who has pointed the finger at the reckless rhetoric of right wing shock jocks as *the* inspiration for Jim Adkisson's murderous rampage, David Neiwart studiously avoids merely pointing out the obvious, common-sense connection between Unitarian*Universalist's reckless anti-conservative rhetoric and Jim David Adkisson's murderous political-terror spree. . . I especially take note of how David Neiwart completely overlooked what Jim David Adkisson said about the Unitarian*Universalist Church.

Here is the initial comment that I left in response to David Neiwart's tunnel vision blog post with some additional embedded hyperlinks -

"These guys are big battleships, dontcha know. Why be bothered with such little spitballs as basic decency and integrity?"

Believe it or not it can be kinda fun being a "big battleship", especially when you are on the side of basic decency and integrity. Just Google - "Iowa Class Battleships" and Unitarians - to see what I mean. There is no question that Jim David Adkisson is a hate-filled racist "homophobic" anti-Liberal bigot who took things way too far in his murderous attack on Unitarian*Universalists but. . . in their finger pointing at Jim Adkisson and the right-wing shock jocks who inspired his terrorist act U*Us, are conveniently forgetting that they themselves harbor and protect people who are no so far removed from Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and Bernie Goldberg etc. when it comes to reckless rhetoric. True, I am not aware of many U*Us suggesting that Republicans and conservatives, or other people they despise should be killed but they none-the-less spout hate-filled rhetoric that makes a total mockery of U*U principles and purposes. In some cases the reckless rhetoric of the U*Us very closely parallels that of Jim David Adkisson or the right-wing shock jocks.

I can't help but take note of the fact that, to date, none of U*U bloggers commenting on Jim Adkisson's suicide note cum "manifesto" have dealt with what he said about the Unitarian*Universalist church in it, and this begs the question -

Why not?

Is it because if one looks past Jim Adkisson's racism, "homophobia", and hatred of Liberals one sees that is not he is not *that* far off the mark in his criticism of Unitarian*Universalism? Is it because Jim Adkisson's manifesto reveals that Unitarian*Universalists are not completely innocent in this matter, and may well have reaped the whirlwind of the hate-filled anti-Republican and anti-conservative, to say nothing of anti-Christian and more broadly anti-religious "wind" that they sow in U*U "churches" throughout the U*U World? It is all very well to talk about how right-wing shock jocks inspired Jim Adkisson's hatred of U*Us but what about the fact that U*U hatred of conservatives inspired him and may well have driven him into the welcoming embrace of right-wing shock jocks? What about these words about U*Us quoted from Jim Adkisson's "manifesto" -

Those people are absolute Hypocrits (sic).
They embrace every pervert that comes down the pike, but if they find out your (sic) a conservative, they absolutely Hate you.
I know, I experienced it.

Herewith my follow-up comment in response to the wrath of Candy -

Oh dear. . .

It would seem that my merely pointing out the obvious, common-sense connection between the reckless anti-Republican and more broadly anti-conservative rhetoric of Unitarian*Universalists and Jim David Adkisson's murderous political-terror spree, as it is clearly expressed in Jim Adkisson's suicide note cun "manifesto", is enough to bring down the wrath of Candy.

"Are you seriously saying that the UUs tolerance and love of gay folks and acceptance of differing views on the nature and existence of god was so threatening to this Adkisson person that he was somehow justified in feeling as he did? That it forms an explanation or even an excuse for his acting out? Are you really?

That's just . . . wow."

No Candy. That is not what I am saying at all. Please read what I actually said and be so kind as to refrain from twisting my words.

Other follow-up comments may be read on the pertinent comments thread but I may transfer others over here as well.

Are UUA President Bill Sinkford, UUA Moderator Gini Courter, And All Other Members Of The UUA Board Of Trustees Feeling Lucky?

In that I have not received so much as a responsible acknowledgment of receipt of my "electronic communication" of January 15th, 2009, calling upon UUA President Bill Sinkford, UUA Moderator Gini Courter, all other members of the UUA Board Of Trustees, as well as UUA Ministry and Professional Leadership Director Rev. Beth Miller and Congregational Services Director Rev. Dr. Tracey Robinson-Harris to "stand on the side of love" by providing some genuine and tangible restorative justice for ALL victims of U*U clergy misconduct it would seem that they are indeed feeling lucky today. . . Time will tell just how lucky these U*Us really are but at least some of UUA President Bill Sinkford's luck ran out somewhat prematurely two weeks ago.

Rev. Bill Sinkford's luck had been originally scheduled to run out on St. Valentine's Day when he once again failed and refused to respond in responsibility to the Spirit that bloweth where it listeth but my patience ran out when it became clear that it was extremely unlikely that he or any other UUA representative would take the first steps towards standing on the side of love for all victims of U*U clergy misconduct by St. Valentine's Day. Yet again UUA President William G. Sinkford, UUA Moderator Gini Courter, and pretty much all of the "top brass" at UUA headquarters in Boston have proven that "love" means absolutely nothing aka zero when it comes to "choosing love" and "standing on the side of love" for victims of clergy misconduct. . .

How Jim Adkisson's Hate Crime Manifesto Reveals The Hypocrisy Of Montreal Unitarian*Universalists, The UUA, And Ministerial *Fellowship* Committee

The very first thing that the quite evidently racist, "homophobic", anti-liberal bigot Jim David Adkisson aka Jim Adkisson has to say about the Unitarian*Universalist Church in his "suicide note" cum "manifesto" is -

"Don't let the word church mislead you. This isn't a church, it's a cult."

For the time being I will deal exclusively how this one element of Jim Adkisson's hate speech that he used to justify his self-confessed hate crime exposes outrageous hypocrisy on the part of the Unitarian Church Of Montreal, the UUA, it's very aptly named Ministerial Fellowship Committee, and any and all other Unitarian*Universalists who have condoned the false and malicious labeling of my own religious activities as a "cult" of the "manipulative and secretive" "Solar Temple" variety by the former fundamentalist atheist minister of the Unitarian Church of Montreal Rev. Ray Drennan, former UCM Presidents Frank Greene and John Inder, other leading lay members of the self-described Unitarian Church of Montreal, and other individual U*Us "out there" in the U*U World. Immediately following his hate filled "rant" against the Unitarian*Universalist Church Jim Adkisson says -

Know This If Nothing Else

1. - This Was A Hate Crime:

I hate the damn left-wing Liberals.
There is a vast left-wing conspiracy in this country & these liberals are working together to attack every decent & honorable institution in the Nation, trying to turn this country into a communist state. Shame on them.

end quote

U*U blogger Sara Robinson describes Jim Adkisson's hate filled "manifesto" with the following words on the "Know This If Nothing Else: This Was A Hate Crime" post of the Orcinus blog.

"In it, he unleashes the full measure of his hatred for liberals -- and encourages other would-be right-wing warriors to take up arms and follow him into battle."

The prospective U*U minister Rev. Patrick McLaughlin, U*U blogger "Ogre", says the following on the Hate Crime: When it's not even a question... post of his 'Sparks In The Dark ' blog -

"Well, Adkisson's letter makes it clear. He wrote one page under the header "Know This If Nothing Else," and his first statement is that this was a hate crime. He acted out of hate, and reading the letter it's clear where the ideas and wording of that hate came from--straight off of right wing talk radio. So let's call that what it is--hate radio, just like Radio Rwanda was; urging hatred of liberals. Too strong, you think? Nah."

end quote

As previously noted
, UU World magazine editor Christopher Walton describes Jim Adkisson's hate-filled manifesto with these words on the 'Knoxville gunman: "I hope others do the same."' post of his Philocrites blog -

"It's a thoroughly depressing read: a desperate man's pastiche of paranoid right-wing talking points about the evils of liberalism."

end quote

I could engage in a free and responsible search for similar descriptions of Jim Adkisson's hate-filled anti-liberal and anti-U*U "manifesto", and I am very confident that I would find them, but these quotes will suffice for my purposes here which are simply to ask U*Us to explain to me and others reading this blog how Jim David Adkisson's hate-filled labeling of "The Unitarian Universalist Church" as a "cult" in the "manifesto" seeking to justify his self-described hate crime substantially differs from the false and malicious, and indeed quite hateful. . . labeling of Creation Day and/or my other religious activities as a "cult" by the aforementioned "Humanist" Unitarian*Universalists?

Prey tell Unitarian*Universalists. . .

How does Rev. Ray Drennan's hate-filled labeling of Creation Day as "your cult" as in "a manipulative and secretive religious group" qualitatively differ from Jim Adkisson's hate-filled assertion that Unitarian*Universalism isn't a church but is a cult? How is Jim Adkisson's quite evidently hate-filled labeling of Unitarian*Universalism as a "cult" part and parcel of his self-confessed "hate crime" whereas, according to the UUA's very aptly named Ministerial *Fellowship* Committee, Rev. Ray Drennan's virtually identical, albeit evidently less justified. . . labeling of the inter-religious celebration Creation Day as a cult is "within the appropriate guidelines of ministerial leadership"? How is the hate-filled labeling of Creation Day and/or my other religious activities as a "cult" by two intolerant if not outright bigoted "Humanist" Presidents of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, Frank Greene and John Inder, other leading lay members of the UCM, and some other anti-religious U*Us, any less "hate speech" than Jim David Adkisson's self-confessed hate-speech?

If U*Us are unable to come up with any satisfactory answers to these questions may I prevail upon U*Us to demand that both the UUA and the Unitarian Church of Montreal must reopen and reexamine my original clergy misconduct complaint against Rev. Ray Drennan that arose from his intolerant and abusive anti-religious "hate speech" and responsibly acknowledge that falsely and maliciously labeling a congregant's, or anyone else's. . . religious activities as a "cult" is most certainly not "within the appropriate guidelines of ministerial leadership"? May I prevail upon U*Us to stand on the side of justice, equity and compassion in human relations, to say nothing of love, and demand that both the Unitarian Church of Montreal and Unitarian*Universalist Associations of Congregations aka the UUA must formally apologize to me for condoning, if not effectively endorsing and "sponsoring", Rev. Ray Drennan's "hate speech" for the better part, or indeed worse part. . . of thirteen unlucky years now?

John Bohstedt Speaks Out Against Hate Speech In The Wake Of Jim David Adkisson's Guilty Plea

"In the mind, a troubled and bitter and evil mind, hate speech can lead to violent action and I think people who are decent citizens need to tell the sponsors who profit from hate speech that we need to cut down on the hate speech that is broadcast."

John Bohstedt

I look forward to the day when the sponsors of Rev. Ray Drennan's hate speech, the Unitarian Church of Montreal and the UUA, responsibly acknowledge the wrongfulness and harmfulness of their more than decade long sponsorship of his hate speech, to say nothing of the Unitarian Church of Montreal's and the UUA's ongoing sponsorship of the hate speech of other intolerant and abusive Unitarian*Universalists aka U*Us such a Rev. Cynthia P. Cain and Rev. Victoria Weinstein just for starters. . .

Earlier today I responded to someone who had equated me with the obviously racist, homophobic, anti-liberal bigot Jim David Adkisson as a result of my critical comments posted in response to TVUUC minister Rev. Chris Buice's rather naïve, if not outright disingenuous, 'Everyone Welcome' - Even Now' Op/Ed in Newsweek. This seems as good a place as any to post my rebuttal of that person's defamation -

:The shooter's letter was released to the press today and you sound as extreme and ridiculous as he did.

I don't think so. Nowhere close really. But I know of some U*Us who have said extreme and ridiculous things that very closely parallel, if not duplicate, some of the ridiculous and extreme things that Jim Adkisson said in his "manifesto". In fact one of the U*U injustices that I am protesting against is intolerant and abusive "Humanist" Unitarian*Universalists falsely and maliciously slandering my religious activities as a "cult". . . The anti-liberal bigot Jim Adkisson did call Unitarian*Universalism a cult in his "manifesto" didn't he? I see no difference whatsoever between that particular act of bigotry and fundamentalist atheist "Humanist" U*Us labeling an inter-religious event that I had successfully organized as a "cult" out of their deep-seated anti-religious intolerance and bigotry. Do you?

You know what sdjowers? In spite of his obvious serious psychological problems Jim Adkisson is one up on U*Us in at least one respect. He *owned* his hate-crime which is more than can be said for many U*Us who obstinately refuse to take personal responsibility for their own "hate speech", other forms of intolerance and bigotry, or diverse other injustices and abuses. I am still waiting for outrageously hypocritical Unitarian*Univeralists aka U*Us to responsibly acknowledge the "hate speech" and/or other intolerance and bigotry, or otherwise insulting and defamatory language, that they are clearly and unequivocally guilty of. I am still waiting for the Unitarian Church of Montreal and the UUA to responsibly *own* their own shameful failure, indeed their apparent obstinate refusal. . . to provide genuine restorative justice to me and other people who are victims of U*U clergy misconduct or who have otherwise been victimized by U*Us.

One more thing sdjowers, I believe Jim Adksisson when he says that he was subjected to hate by U*Us because he was a political conservative. I see no shortage of anti-Republican and broader anti-conservative intolerance, and even outright hated on the part of Unitarian*Universalists, to say nothing of the anti-Christian and broader anti-religious intolerance and bigotry that pervades and degrades Unitarian*Universalism. There is no excuse for what Jim Adkisson did but U*Us may well have reaped hatred that they sowed themselves in hating Jim Adkisson and other conservatives. Unitarian*Universalists can be thankful that I am far from being a "crazy" "psychotic" "nutcase" as maliciously alleged by rather too many foolish intolerant and abusive U*Us because, if I was, I might have done a Jim Adkisson by now. As it is I have been totally non-violent throughout this conflict which is more than can be said about belligerent Unitarian*Universalists who have threatened me and even assaulted me on occasion.

Rev. Chris Buice Asserts That Jim David Adkisson aka Jim David Adkisson Is A Victim Of His Own Hatred

According to a Knoxville News Sentinel article entitled aka headlined 'Pastor: Remorseless shooter is victim of his own hate' Rev. Chris Buice of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian*Universalist Congregation of Knoxville Tennessee has publicly declared that Jim David Adkisson aka Jim Adkisson "is now a victim of his own hatred" as a result of his being sentenced to life in prison without parole for shooting several members of the TVUUC and murdering two of them. Forgive me for saying so U*Us but, following pretty much the same principle as Rev. Chris Buice, I believe that I can quite safely say that Rev. Beth Miller and Rev. Dr. Tracey Robinson-Harris are victims of their crazy ass endorsement of Peacebang's hatred. . . In fact Rev. Victoria Weinstein is herself a victim of her very own hateful insulting and defamatory language thanks in no small measure to my U*U World famous "Eat-Your-Words Diet". . . Likewise the UUA, it's very aptly named Ministerial *Fellowship* Committee and the congregation of the Unitarian Church of Montreal are victims of their foolish condoning of Rev. Ray Drennan's outspoken anti-religious intolerance and bigotry aka hate speech aka hatred. . . Other U*Us, including rather too many U*U ministers, are quite evidently victims of their own hatred and The Emerson Avenger can't help but wonder just how many more hatefilled U*Us will become victims of their own hatred.

The Ministerial *Fellowship* Committee and the UUA Refuse To Provide Restorative Justice For All Victims Of Clergy Misconduct

What began as a comparatively brief comment intended to be submitted to the 'Ministerial Authority' post of Rev. Christine Robinson's iminister blog evolved into the following "diatribe". It was submitted as a comment but may not be posted. I may add a few extra (im)pertinent links to this version of the comment -

It would be nice if the UUA, its Ministerial Fellowship Committee, and implicated U*U congregations would learn to respond appropriately to complaints about the "less than calm" *presence* of some U*U ministers. Quite regrettably, the last time I checked. . . Unitarian*Universalist ministers and the UUA are not very good at taking back their "less than good" answers of various kinds and freely and responsibly revising them so that they are brought into alignment with Truth and genuinely "honor and uphold" the Seven Principles of U*Uism and other clearly stated guidelines, policies, and bylaws of the UUA and U*U congregations, rather than flagrantly disregarding them and even making a total mockery of them. . . I look forward to the day when the UUA and Ministerial *Fellowship* Committee finally get around to taking back and revising the "less than good" answers that they have provided to me and other people who have been affected by the "less than calm" unbecoming conduct of U*U ministers and/or even worse forms of clergy misconduct, including clergy sexual misconduct.

I am not holding my breath however since UUA President Bill Sinkford, UUA Moderator Gini Coulter, and the rest of the UUA Board of Trustees have totally ignored my most recent appeal aka request aka demand for the UUA to provide some genuine and tangible restorative justice to any and all victims of any and all forms of clergy misconduct. After all, they did say Restorative Justice For *All* didn't they? To date I have seen no evidence of any real and tangible restorative justice provided to *any* victim of U*U clergy misconduct, this does not mean there has not been any at all but the fact remains that what little restorative justice may have been provided to victims remains "less than visible" and the UUA still has a long way to go towards providing restorative justice to *all* victims of clergy misconduct. I see very little evidence of the UUA doing anything to live up to that *promise* and I have recently heard from what I consider to be knowledgeable and reliable sources that virtually no restorative justice of any kind has been provided to victims of U*U clergy misconduct. In fact I am being "liberal" in using the phrase "virtually no restorative justice" because the word one of my sources used was "none" aka zero aka "love". Yes, if I am to believe my sources, and I have little reason to doubt these well informed people, providing little or no tangible restorative justice to any victims of clergy misconduct is how the UUA chooses love and is "standing on the side of love" for victims of clergy misconduct, this in spite have having pledged to bend towards justice and to work towards providing restorative justice for *all* the better part of a decade ago. . .
