The Emerson Avenger

The Emerson Avenger is a "memory hole" free blog where censorship is scorned. This blog will "guard the right to know" about any injustices and abuses that corrupt Unitarian Universalism. Posters may speak and argue freely, according to conscience, about any injustices and abuses, or indeed hypocrisy, that they may know about so that the Avenger, in the form of justice and redress, may come surely and swiftly. . . In 1992 I underwent a profound revelatory experience of God which revealed that the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" is a "Sign in the Heavens" that symbolizes God's divine omniscience. You may read about what Rev. Ray Drennan of the Unitarian Church of Montreal contemptuously dismissed as my "psychotic experience" here: - This revelatory religious experience inspired me to propose an inter-religious celebration of Creation that would take place whenever a total solar eclipse took place over our planet. You may read about what Rev. Ray Drennan and other leading members of the Unitarian Church of Montreal falsely and maliciously labeled as a "cult" here: - I am now an excommunicated Unitarian whose "alternative spiritual practice" includes publicly exposing and denouncing Unitarian*Universalist injustices, abuses, and hypocrisy. The Emerson Avenger blog will serve that purpose for me and hopefully others will share their concerns here. Dee Miller's term DIM Thinking is used frequently and appropriately on this blog. Unitarian Universalism Has A History Of Clergy Sexual Abuse And Misconduct. . .

But don't take my word for it U*Us. . .

Take the word of U*U minister Reverend Lynn Strauss of the Unitarian Universalist Church Of Rockville Maryland, as written in her comparatively recent Sunday sermon titled 'Clergy Sexual Abuse and Misconduct 2010'. Here are a few highlights from that sermon that U*Us would be well advised to pay heed to -

"We too have a history of clergy sexual abuse and misconduct. Our Association, for too long, also refused to see and respond to the truth of abuse of power by some of our ministers."

"If a minister was accused of sexual misconduct, he (it was almost always a he) he was merely transferred to another congregation…to another district. And no healing or opportunity for truth telling was offered to the women or to the congregations that were harmed."

"Clergy act within systems. If clergy are allowed to act in unethical and immoral ways, the systems: the Vatican, the UUA, the parishes, the congregations… also are culpable."

"I want to be clear that if ever you suspect or experience sexual misconduct by a Unitarian Universalist minister…you are expected to report it. Call the District Executive, Call Boston. Report it."

Well Rev. Lynn Strauss wasn't doing too badly until she made the following rather *questionable* assertion -

"There is no more tolerance for misconduct. There are good policies and procedures and clear guidelines posted on the UUA website-look for the link to “Restorative Justice for All”.

In short Rev. Lynn Strauss is quite mistaken if she *really* believes that there is no more tolerance for clergy misconduct within the UUA and-or individual U*U churches. The "good policies" that she speaks about actually have some serious flaws that need to be corrected but, even those policies, procedures, and sometimes rather "less than clear" guidelines, that actually are "good" are often flagrantly disregarded and violated by those U*U administrators who are responsible for dealing with clergy misconduct complaints.

"Any allegation is investigated with an approach of advocacy for the victim /survivor."

Not in my experience. . . nor in that of other victims of various forms of clergy misconduct.

"The focus is on restorative justice in which everyone is heard."

Again, not in my experience, nor in that of other victims of various forms of clergy misconduct. Au contraire. . . the UUA and Unitarian Church of Montreal have gone to highly questionable lengths to silence me and most certainly have not properly listened to what I have to say about the clergy misconduct of Rev. Ray Drennan, Rev. Victoria Weinstein aka Peacebang, and other "less than perfect" U*U clergy.

"If deemed justified, censure occurs, and ministers can be removed from Fellowship in the UUA. When this happens all ministers and congregations are notified by letter."

Is this really true? Are *all* 1000 or so Unitarian*Universalist congregations actually notified by letter when a U*U minister is censured or removed from fellowship?

"The expectation of keeping secrets has been replaced with the expectation of truth-telling."

Forgive me for saying *bullshit* here U*Us. . . butt the "expectation of keeping secrets" has by no means been replaced by "the expectation of truth-telling". To this very day Unitarian*Universalists in general, and U*U clergy in particular. . . continue to not only keep secrets regarding clergy misconduct and other U*U injustices and abuses, but also continue attempting to silence and suppress those people who dare to try to tell the truth about U*U clergy misconduct of various kinds. I none-the-less thank Rev. Lynn Strauss for so publicly acknowledging that Unitarian*Universalists *were*, and AFA*I*AC still *are*. . . guilty of "keeping secrets" aka covering up and hiding Unitarian*Universalist clergy misconduct.

Teresa Nielsen Hayden Says That It Really Sucks That The UUA & MFC Allow Unitarian*Universalist Ministers To Flame People Hairless On The Internet

That's right U*Us. . .

Science fiction author Teresa Nielsen Hayden says -

"I haven't read the interactions you describe, so I can't pass judgment on them. However, taken solely as an abstract principle, the idea that "it's all right to flame people hairless, as long as you do so anonymously" just purely sucks."

The "interactions" that I described in a previous TEA blog post were my "electronic communications" aka email correspondence with *the* Rev. Dr. Tracey Robinson-Harris and Rev. Beth Miller regarding how "less than excellent" U*U minister Rev. Victoria Weinstein was guilty of "flaming people hairless" with deeply insulting, and otherwise offensive and verbally abusive, blog posts and comments under the cowardly cover of internet anonymity using the pseudonym Peacebang. The pertinent "interactions" may be read by following the pertinent link in my follow-up comment responding to that of Teresa Nielsen Hayden which is reproduced below -

Thanks for your comment here Teresa.

Read this string of "electronic communications" between your's truly and former UUA Congregational Services Director Rev. Dr. Tracey Robinson-Harris and weep. . .

The key sentence says -

It is the case that in this situation the minister’s blog is anonymous (though you were able to identify the individual) and that she is free to express her opinions and to do so outside of her professional role as a minister serving a congregation.

end quote

This idiotic ruling effectively means that any and all U*U ministers can "flame people hairless" as you so aptly put it, with complete impunity, zero accountability whatsoever, not so much as a reprimand. . . as long as these verbally and psychologically abusive U*U ministers do so anonymously. . .

Unitarian*Universalist Ministers Become Assholes When They Can Hide Behind Anonymity And Avoid Accountability And Big Fat U*U Consequences. . .

Butt don't take my word for it U*Us, take Arni Zachariassen's word for it, as posted in a follow-up comment to the 'In which I complain about people being rude as hell on the Internet.' post on U*U blogger Crystal Ste. Marie Lewis' blog.

FWIW. . . Here is the follow-up comment that I posted as something of an "Amen Choir" to Ami Zachariassen's comment -

:Basically research shows (as we were all aware) that people become, well, assholes when they can hide behind anonymity and avoid accountability and consequences.

True enough Ami. In fact my own basic research shows (as few U*Us seem to be aware. . .) that *some* Unitarian*Universalist ministers become, well, Big Fat U*U Assholes when they can hide behind anonymity and avoid accountability and consequences. . .

Update: Friday December 17 2010 at 2:16 p.m.

Here is the follow-up comment that I submitted to Crystal Ste. Marie Louis a few minutes ago -

It is rather disappointing Crystal that you refuse to post my comment which echoes what Arni said while pointing out that "less than perfect" Unitarian*Universalist ministers "become, well, assholes" when they are allowed by the UUA and MFC to "flame people hairless" as long as they do so under the cowardly cover of internet anonymity and/or pseudonymity. . . It is not like I did not provide the means to engage in a free and responsible search for the truth and meaning of my comment by providing pertinent links to online evidence proving my words to be 100% true. No?

The Unitarian Universalist Church Abjectly Fails And Even Obstinately Refuses To Exercise Justice, Equity, And Compassion In Human Relations

Just saying as they say. . .

Here is my comment responding to U*U blogger David G. Markham's recent blog post titled -

'Is this why the Catholic church is dying in Europe? Church fails to exercise justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.'

:The Roman Catholic church has failed, in the eyes of the Dutch, to act with justice, equity, and compassion in human relations, the 2nd principle of Unitarian Universalism. Hopefully, Unitarian Universalists deal with sexual abuse much better.

The key word here being *hopefully*. . .

Surely by now David you must realize that Unitarian*Universalists do not in fact deal with sexual abuse, or indeed non-sexual forms of clergy abuse, all *that* much better than the Roman Catholic church does. But don't take my word for it David, take the word of UUA Executive Vice President Kay Montgomery, as gleaned from the UUA's now decade old official apology to victims of clergy sexual misconduct perpetrated by U*U ministers -

"Let me say this as simply and unequivocally as I know how: the Association has largely failed the people most hurt by sexual misconduct, the victims and survivors. Other denominations have done better. These brave and bruised people have, more often than not I suspect, been left lonely, confused, afraid, angry and betrayed. Un-ministered to. . ."

Please note that *other* denominations have done better. I dare say that the Roman Catholic Church has done better than the Unitarian*Universalist religious community in *some* aspects of its response to clergy sexual misconduct.

Kay Montgomery went on to "pledge" that "this gap, this failure, will be remedied" and that the UUA would "change and learn" and "in this *untended* area" the UUA would "bend toward justice". Quite regrettably, I and other people "in the know" about the UUA's ongoing mis*handling of clergy misconduct complaints know all too well that the UUA has ahem *largely failed* to live up to the letter and the spirit of that decade old "pledge" aka promise.

And I would not hold out too much hope aka wishful thinking regarding UUA President Peter Morales' willingness to honor and uphold UU principles when it comes to clergy sexual misconduct or other forms of clergy misconduct perpetrated by "less than perfect" U*U ministers. President Morales seems to have all but completely forgotten what he wrote in his response to UU Safety Net's 'Open Letter' about clergy sexual misconduct which was addressed to both previous UUA Presidential candidates.

And I would not hold out too much hope aka wishful thinking regarding current UUA President Peter Morales' readiness, willingness, and ability to honor and uphold the claimed principles of Unitarian*Universalism when it comes to dealing with clergy sexual misconduct or other forms of clergy misconduct perpetrated by "less than perfect" U*U ministers. President Peter Morales seems to have all but completely forgotten what he wrote in his response to UU Safety Net's 'Open Letter' about clergy sexual misconduct which was addressed to both previous UUA Presidential candidates. The advocates for clergy misconduct victims who I am in touch with are of the opinion that Rev. Peter Morales has done virtually nothing to put into practice what he so emptily "preached" in his official response to UU Safety Net's 'Open Letter' well over a year and a half ago. . . President Morales is only too willing to very publicly "stand on the side of love" for *illegal* immigrants, but has yet to do anything to "stand on the side of love" for victims of clergy misconduct committed by "less than loving" U*U ministers. . .

The Minneapolis Post Web Site Moderator Believes That The Emerson Avenger Provides Civil, Thought-Provoking And High-Quality Public Discussion

According to the disclaimer below Rev. Meg Riley's 'Open Letter To Senator Al Franken' the Minneapolis Post intend that their comment area is "to be used by our readers as a place for civil, thought-provoking and high-quality public discussion." It goes on to say, "In order to achieve this, MinnPost requires that all commenters register and post comments with their actual names and place of residence." I guess that in that the moderator of the MinnPost website felt that my comment responding to Rev. Meg Riley's 'Open Letter' was worthy of publication, as opposed to being censored and suppressed as so many U*Us would do. . . that it met the Minneapolis Post's standards for "civil, thought-provoking and high-quality public discussion."

Many outrageously hypocritical U*Us, including UUA list-serve moderators like Deborah Weiner, would have *pretended* that my critical comment was a "personal attack" on Rev. Meg Riley in order to justify suppressing that comment, but the MinnPost website moderator apparently did not believe that my critical comment constituted a "personal attack" on Rev. Riley either since the Minneapolis Post "does not permit the use of foul language, personal attacks or the use of language that may be libelous or interpreted as inciting hate or sexual harassment. User comments are reviewed by moderators to ensure that comments meet these standards and adhere to MinnPost's terms of use and privacy policy."

Unlike so many of the Unitarian*Universalists I know, the moderator of the Minneapolis Post website seems to believe that my critical comment deserved to be read by the general public so that they may make up their own minds about its truth and meaning. . .

Rev. Meg Riley Calls For A Morally Grounded Time Of Lament And Repentance Of Unitarian*Universalist Clergy Misconduct Of ALL Kinds

Well not quite. . .

What Rev. Meg Riley, Senior Minister of the UUA's Church of the Larger Fellowship, *actually* called for was "a morally grounded time of lament and repentance" for the U.S. senate's recent passing of tax cuts for America's richest citizen's in 'An open letter to Sen. Al Franken on the tax bill' which was published today on the Minneapolis Post website. The Emerson Avenger thus decided to put Rev. Meg Riley on his U*U World Famous "Eat Your Words Diet" by suggesting that Rev. Meg Riley, and her Unitarian*Universalist minister peers, might be very well advised to engage in "a morally grounded time of lament and repentance" for their own sins of commission and sins of ommission. . .

Here is the follow-up comment that I just submitted in response to Rev. Meg Riley's 'Open Letter' To Senator Al Franken'. She and other U*U ministers can consider my comment to be a kind of 'Open Letter' addressed to them, and part of what *one* UU minister recently called my "prophetic work" and another quite insightful UU minister, who is very well acquainted with the UUA's genuinely *lamentable* aka deplorable mis*handling of clergy misconduct complaints, long ago referred to as my "alternative spiritual practice" -

"Why wasn't there an organized resistance to extending and increasing the wealth of our richest citizens, where religious people and poor people and unions and the rest of the American majority stood up and spoke with moral voices?"

Good question Rev. Riley and. . . since you acknowledge that this question is addressed to you and to your peers (presumably other "religious professionals") what, if anything, did you and other Unitarian*Universalist ministers do to *organize* resistance to these tax cuts for America's richest citizens? Why did you and other Unitarian*Universalists fail to stand up and speak with moral voices about these tax cuts well *before* the House and Senate votes took place? Could it possibly be because you were all falling over each other organizing somewhat questionable resistance to Arizona's recent attempts to curb *illegal* immigration?

Were you all so busy "standing on the side of love" for *illegal* immigrants that you were unready, unwilling, and apparently quite unable to "stand on the side of love" for those perfectly legal American citizens who are "suffering from joblessness, lack of health care and other increasingly common problems"? Come to think of it Meg isn't *illegal* immigration an increasingly common problem in the U.S.A.? Why are you "grieving" that this vote happened on your watch as a religious leader? Could it be because you know that you and your Unitarian*Universalist peers dropped the ball on this particular issue?

I dare say that you and other Unitarian*Universalist ministers might be very well advised to engage in "a morally grounded time of lament and repentance" for your own sins of commission and sins of ommission, not the least of these sins being the Unitarian*Universalist religious community's past and onging genuinely *lamentable* mishandling of clergy misconduct complaints of ALL kinds including, but by no means limited to, some quite egregious clergy sexual misconduct. When will you and other U*U ministers get around to lamenting and repenting your peers' negligent and complicit mishandling of clergy misconduct in The U*U Movement and then providing some long overdue restorative justice to ALL victims of U*U clergy misconduct?

Have U*U clergy no shame?

Perhaps I should not have asked *that* question considering just how hubris filled U*U clergy and UUA leaders seem to be. . .

Should Montreal Unitarian U*U Jeremy Searle Be Neutered For The Sake Of U*Ugenics?

The above idiotic and indeed quite childish YouTube video, courtesy of Montreal Unitarian U*U and N.D.G. mayor wannabe Jeremy Searle, provides some insight into the "less than brilliant" mind of the quite evidently "less than perfect" Montreal Unitarian Mr. Jeremy Searle.

The following comments, gleaned from the comments section of Jeremy Searle's 'Searle's World' YouTube account, provide some "insight" into what members of the general public think of Montreal Unitarian U*U Jeremy Searle's idiotic and childish "views". . .

Slate454 - You have some of the most ridiculous views I've ever heard. You should be neutered.

Jeremy Searle N.D.G. Mayor Wannabe And "Less Than Perfect" Montreal Unitarian U*U Puts His Big Fat U*U Foot In His Big Fat U*U Mouth Yet Again. . .

Jeremy Searle is one of those arrogant loud mouthed politicians who inspired the following saying of The Emerson Avenger long before he ever became a Transcendentalist Super Hero, or even a member of the so-called Unitarian Church of Montreal -

"I don't know if he keeps putting his foot in his mouth because his mouth is so big, or if his mouth is so big because he keeps putting his foot in it. . ."

Needless to say Jeremy Searle, former Montreal city councillor and N.D.G. mayoralty candidate, and current member of the Church of the Tarnished Image aka the Unitarian Church of Montreal, went and put his foot in it again earlier today as I was engaged in my "prophetic work" aka "alternative spiritual practice" of protesting against U*U antireligious intolerance and bigotry, the negligent and complicit mishandling of clergy misconduct complaints by the UUA and its very aptly named Ministerial *Fellowship* Committee, and other U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy.

Amongst other insulting and abusive things Jeremy Searle said to me within the last hour and a half or so was -

"Fuck off and die."

This was not the first time that the "less than polite" populist Montreal politian Jeremy Searle has made statements strongly suggesting that he wished that I was dead. Jeremy Searle has previously made statements to the effect that he and other Montreal Unitarians would celebrate my death with a toast of champagne. While I do not consider telling someone to "Fuck off and die" to be an actual death threat, it is none-the-less an expression of a clear desire that someone was ahem "corpse cold" in the literal sense. Hardly "becoming" behavior of a Unitarian*Universalist or indeed a Montreal politician who had, and possibly still has. . . ambitions to become the mayor of the Montreal borough of Notre Dame de Grace aka N.D.G.

That is all for now, but I will probably add more to this post later.

Julian Assange And The Emerson Avenger Are Both Journalists According To The *Other* U*U Science Fiction Author Will Shetterly

A Unitarian Universalist Minister Affirms And Promotes The "Prophetic Work" Of The Emerson Avenger

The Emerson Avenger was pleasantly surprised the other day when a Unitarian Universalist minister with whom he was sharing some "electronic communications" concluded one of their emails responding to his "electronic communications" with the following salutation -

"With appreciation for your prophetic work,"

Since it is a rare thing indeed for any Unitarian Universalist minister to express *appreciation* for anything that The Emerson Avenger does, let alone describe his ongoing exposing and denouncing U*U clergy misconduct, and UUA mishandling thereof, along with a variety of other U*U injustices, abuses, and hypocrisy as "prophetic work", I decided to seek this UU minister's permission to publicize their affirming words about your's truly in a blog post here. The prompt and encouraging response of this UU minister to my request to publicly post their complimentary and validating words here was -

"I am fine if you mention that a UU minister said you were doing prophetic work.

You are."

I dare say that this affirming and promoting UU minister made The Emerson Avenger's day the other day, if not his whole week last week.

Yet Another Police Free Protest In Front Of The Unitarian Church Of Montreal

I could get used to this. . . :-)

Sunday December 5th, 2010, more or less marked the 10th anniversary of my false arrest on the completely bogus 'disturbing religious worship' criminal charges that were brought against me at the behest of deeply misguided Montreal Unitarians going to desperate lengths to shut down my peaceful public protest against U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy in front of the Unitarian Church of Montreal. I thus thought that it would be just a tad ironic if I was arrested for a second set of completely bogus, or highly questionable, criminal charges this Sunday. OTOH I was pretty sure that an arrest on *any* criminal charges is increasingly unlikely and that I almost certainly would not be arrested this Sunday. In fact I was quite confident that there was a good possibility that the police wouldn't show up at all and this confidence proved to be well founded. . .

The fact of the matter is that were, and still are, virtually no valid legal reasons for the Montreal police force, and Quebec Crown prosecutors etc. etc., to aid and abet outrageously hypocritical Montreal Unitarians desperately trying to compromise and undermine the letter and spirit of the Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedoms by having me arrested on highly questionable, if not completely unwarranted, criminal charges whose only *real* purpose is to force an end to my image tarnishing peaceful public protest in front of The Church Of The Tarnished Image aka the Unitarian Church of Montreal.

I did not see a single marked SPVM police car during the whole time that I protested in front of the Unitarian Church of Montreal this Sunday and I protested for about an hour or so. This is a refreshing and welcome change from having Station 11 police officers show up to unnecessarily question me and/or attempt to shut down my peaceful public protest almost every single time that I showed up to protest over the last several years. This is a real and significant change in the tactics of Station 11 police officers, especially in light of the increasingly questionable manner of their unwarranted interventions in the spring of this year which caused me to contact Station 11 commanders directly and question what I have reasonable grounds to consider to be unprofessional, and even somewhat intimidating and abusive, behaviour on the part of *some* Station 11 police officers. Hopefully it is a quite permanent change in police tactics and I will be able to continue protesting against U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy in front of the Unitarian Church of Montreal with minimal or no police intervention for some time yet. . .

I have yet to file a formal complaint against any of those Station 11 police officers who behaved in an unprofessional manner towards me this spring, *some* of whom conducted themselves in a manner that *could* be considered to constitute police intimidation and harassment, but it seems that my questioning of their apparent misuse and abuse the proverbial power and authority invested in them may be a contributing factor in the apparent decision of Station 11 to stop sending police cars to the Unitarian Church of Montreal almost every time that I show up to protest. In fact I have enjoyed four police free Sundays out of the last five, and the one Sunday where the police did intervene they allowed me to continue my protest after talking with me and representatives of the Unitarian Church of Montreal such as Allison Hall who was intimately involved in Rev. Diane Rollert's deeply misguided effort to quash my protest via obtaining a restraining order against me based on her own and other Montreal Unitarians' paranoid fantasies and perjurious lies. . .

Please note that I said that I did not see a single *marked* SPVM police car this Sunday. That does not mean that an unmarked police car did not drive by a few times or even park for a while to engage in some surveillance of my protest. In fact a black SUV did drive by a few times this Sunday and I recall seeing the same or very similar black SUV during some of my previous interactions with the police. In fact I distinctly recall a black SUV being present during one of the police interventions in November when Station 11 police officers realized that they were being fed a line of bullshit by Montreal Unitarians who were falsely claiming that I was behaving aggesssively during my protest.

If the black SUV that I saw drive by a couple of times is in fact an unmarked police vehicle that is fine by me. I have in the past requested police surveillance of my protest as a result of Montreal Unitarians calling in false reports to the police. I knew that any police surveillance of what one Unitarian*Universalist minister long ago referred to as my 'alternative spiritual practice', and another UU clergyperson recently referred to as my 'prophetic work', would show that not only is my own behavior in front of the Unitarian Church of Montreal well within the bounds of normal peaceful public protest activities, indeed it is amongst the most peaceful public protests one is likely to ever see, but that every now and then. . . a Montreal Unitarian U*U (to say nothing of non-Montreal U*Us and the occasional non-U*U) gets just a tad aggressive towards me, such as by repeatedly tossing my picket signs into de Maisonneuve boulevard as just one Big Fat U*U Example.

Who knows?

Maybe Station 11 police officers finally decided that it wouldn't be such a bad idea to make an effort to find out what *really* happens during my protests in front of the Unitarian Church of Montreal on any given Sunday.

Is it possible that Sergeant Detective Scott Darragh, who foolishly and I dare say quite aggressively threatened me with arrest on fairly serious (albeit all but completely groundless. . .) criminal charges during a meeting that I had with him and Lieutenant Sylvain Boisvert in early June, decided to do some *real* detective work, instead of happily swallowing the highly misleading and outright false bullshit that Montreal Unitarians fed him hook, line, and sinker? I would certainly hope that the day that Sergeant Detective Scott Darragh starts to thoroughly cross-examine the Montreal Unitarian liars who have been feeding him bullshit about me is the day that he stops swallowing it. . .

Who knows?

Maybe that is exactly what happened within the last month or so, and goes a long way to explaining the significantly decreased, to say nothing of much more polite and professional, interventions by Station 11 police officers during my peaceful public protests in front of the Unitarian Church of Montreal in November and, so far. . . December.
