UUA Presidents To Say Nothing Of CUC Executive Directors Can And Do Say Some Mighty Foolish Things And Their Words *Do* Reflect On The U*U Movement
In a blog post titled 'What Is Wrong With UU the Way it Is? part 1' on his Pfarrer Streccius blog ChicagoLand conservative U*U blogger Bill Baar plays the congregational polity card by pretending that the words (if not actions. . .) of UUA Presidents do not reflect upon the greater U*U religious community. I disagree and am reproducing here the comment that I left on Bill's blog post.
"A UUA Prez can say some mighty foolish things, but that's on him/her; not you, me, or the wider UU."
Sorry Bill but I have to disagree with you on that point. You might as well say that the Pope can say some mighty foolish things, but that's on him; not the wider Roman Catholic religious community. For the record the President of the UUA is the *official spokesperson* of the UUA so what he or she says most certainly does reflect on not only the UUA butt The U*U Movement more generally. I might add that if U*Us do not speak out against the mighty foolish things that a UUA president, or indeed any number of other "less than excellent" U*U ministers, may say that their complicit silence does not reflect very well on The Tiny Declining Fringe Religion™ either. . .
end quote
I may well add some examples of some of the mighty foolish things that have been said by UUA Presidents over the years to this blog post later. God knows that there already are a good number of examples of mighty foolish things that have been said by UUA Presidents, top level UUA staff and administrators, "less than excellent" U*U clergy, and other Unitarian*Universalist U*Us scattered throughout this blog but it can't hurt to repeat the mighty foolish things that some UUA Presidents have said here.
Thanks go out to Bill Baar for inspiring me to write a brand-spanking new parody song about foolish U*Us which will be titled -
These Foolish Things Remind Me Of U*U :-)
