UUA President Bill Sinkford And Unitarian Universalist Child Sex Abuse Cover-Up And Denial - What's The Connection?
How about the shameful Unitarian Universalist child sex abuse cover-up and denial that former UUA President Rev. Bill Sinkford aka Rev. William G. Sinkford engaged in as recently as February 28, 2019, in this online publication of First Unitarian Portland entitled 'The Place Where We Are Right' which is demonstrably WRONG about not only child sex abuse committed by pedophile*rapist Unitarian*Universalist ministers, to say nothing of less serious forms of Unitarian Universalist clergy sexual misconduct; such as his own alleged clergy sexual misconduct that allegedly resulted in a formal complaint of clergy sexual misconduct being brought against Rev. Sinkford, to say nothing of an acrimonious divorce from the wife he allegedly "cheated on" with a "less than perfect" female Unitarian Universalist minister who was also allegedly married at the time of their alleged extra-marital "affair"?
In publicly asserting that:
"Few UU ministers have been accused of sexual misconduct, but enough have
to make righteousness impossible to claim. One UU minister was
convicted of child sexual abuse just a few years ago. Only one, but
still…"
Former UUA President Bill Sinkford not only minimizes the number of Unitarian Universalist ministers who have been credibly "accused of sexual misconduct" to a vague "few", but Rev. Sinkford minimizes down to "only one" the number of pedophile*rapist Unitarian*Universalist ministers who have been charged, tried, and convicted of what the UUA's "less than honest" Canadian attorney, Stikeman Elliott Barristurds & Bullshitters defamation lawyer Maître Marc-André Coulombe, aptly described as "such despicable crimes as pedophilia and rape" when he falsely accused me of violating Canada's blasphemy law in immoral, UNethical, borderline criminal, to say nothing of #BatShitCrazy UUA child sex abuse cover-up legal bullying in June 2012.
The "One UU minister" who was indeed "convicted of child sexual abuse just a few years ago" is almost certainly ever so "Christian" Unitarian*Universalist pedophile minister Rev. Ronald Eugene Robinson, who was sentenced to 57 months in prison after pleading guilty to "one count of accessing with intent to view child pornography on an Internet website" in May 2017.
There's a MAJOR problem with Rev. Bill Sinkord claiming that, "Only one" Unitarian*Universalist minister "was convicted of child sexual abuse just a few years ago." This claim is highly misleading and disingenuous to say the very least. For all intents and purposes it's a lie which pretends that only one U*U minister has ever been convicted of child sex abuse, when former UUA President Rev. Bill Sinkford is well positioned to know about not only the well-publicized Rev. Mack Wallace Mitchell case, but at least one other case where a Unitarian*Universalist minister was charged tried and convicted of sex crimes against children, namely Rev. William Alexander "Sandy" McEachern.
If one peruses this official UUA list of UUA Clergy Removed or Resigned from Fellowship with Completed or Pending Misconduct Investigations, which was only posted to the internet in late 2021. . . one will find that one Rev. John Harold Hawkins was "Removed for Non-disclosure of Previous Felony Conviction (sexual misconduct with a minor)" in 1988. One should keep in mind that this official UUA list "represents only cases where there were formal misconduct complaints filed, adjudication by the Ministerial Fellowship Committee (MFC) and a minister was either removed from Fellowship or resigned in the midst of a misconduct process", so there could well be some other cases of clergy sexual misconduct involving child sex abuse of one kind or another where either no "formal misconduct complaints" was ever filed, or the minister was not "removed from Fellowship". Certainly when it comes to less serious clergy sexual misconduct, such as U*U ministers having extra-marital affairs with other married U*U ministers for example. . . it is a fact that no less than 400 UUA congregations have had "formal misconduct complaints" brought against at least one of their ministers, but the "less than perfect" ministers in question were never "removed from Fellowship" aka disfellowshipped by the UUA's aptly named Ministerial *Fellowship* Committee, nor did they resign "in the midst of a misconduct process".
So former UUA President Bill Sinkord aka Rev. William G. Sinkford not only lied in publicly claiming that "Few UU ministers have been accused of sexual misconduct", and brazenly lied in pretending that "Only one" Unitarian*Universalist minister "was
convicted of child sexual abuse", but he is one of the many, indeed some hundreds. . . of "misconducting" Unitarian*Universalist ministers who had formal clergy sexual misconduct complaints brought against them, but who were never "removed from Fellowship or resigned in the midst of a misconduct process", indeed at least one of these "misconducting" U*U ministers went on to be elected as President of the Unitarian Universalist Association Of Hundreds Of Congregations Affected By Clergy Sexual Misconduct. . .
It is outrageously hypocritical for Rev. Bill Sinkord to go on to say:
I find myself hoping…and praying…that more of organized religion will
claim a moral voice, not in defense of old patterns, but to support the
development of new hope in this hurting world.
and
I find myself resisting the urge to righteousness that would pretend
our faith is without blemish. There is too much work to do for us to
allow ourselves to engage in false pride.
When he himself is quite evidently engaging in decades old patterns of Unitarian*Universalists, including top-level UUA leadership such as Rev. Dr. Peter "Beyond Belief" Morales and UUA Moderator Jim "See NO Evil" Key. . . officially denying, willfully ignoring, and when denial and ignorance are no longer an option, significantly playing down aka minimizing the extent and seriousness of clergy sexual misconduct in what Dee Miller calls DIM Thinking.
Just in terms of sheer stupidity it was, and still is. . . "dim thinking" on the part of former UUA President Bill Sinkford to publicly and quite brazenly lie about Unitarian*Universalist clergy sexual misconduct that includes, but is by no means limited to "such despicable crimes as pedophilia and rape" most certainly committed by "certain Unitarian Universalist ministers" as recently as February 28, 2019. . .
Perhaps especially in light of this two decade old public statement made by UUA President Bill Sinkford:
''For Unitarian Universalists, the protection of children has always
been our prime concern,'' said Rev. William G. Sinkford, president of
the Unitarian Universalist Association. ''By making clergy mandatory
reporters, this bill increases protection of children from the crime of
sexual abuse, while also respecting the traditions of different
communities of faith.''
And this one:
"We value the possibility of help that pastoral and spiritual
counselling with ministers can provide, but the inarguable value of
protecting children outweighs the questionable value of confidential
counselling for pedophiles," said William G. Sinkford, president of the
Unitarian Universalist Association, a historically Protestant
denomination whose membership now includes non-Christians as well as
Christians. "We Unitarian Universalists want it known that we put
children first."
