Anthony Van Jones Has Got Rev. Christine Robinson All Riled Up Apparently Because He's Not As Smart As All That. . .
On the I'm mad at Van Jones post of her "less than perfect" but really quite good iminister blog, Albuquerque New Mexico U*U minister Rev. Christine Robinson expresses her anger and disappointment at Anthony "Van" Jones, the recently resigned "Green Czar" of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
Herewith Rev. Robinson's "rant" au complet -
Before this week, all I'd ever heard about Van Jones was glowing. He spoke at a UUA General Assembly a few years back and I heard numerous people tell me that it was the best speech they'd ever heard or that he was the smartest person they'd ever heard. I'd missed his speech, and I was sorry.
But today, I'm thinking that it was so dumb of him to take the job of Green Czar, that I'm angry at him. Did he think his past statements and petition signatures (that Bush "let" 9/11 happen so he could go to war, is the most damming) wouldn't catch up with him in this incredibly polarized climate? Had he not noticed how much damage President Obama took on just because he was in the presence of Jeremiah Wright? Hello, Mr. best-speaker-people-have-ever-heard! This is the real world speaking! It matters what petitions you signed and what impolite things you said in the heat of various news storms.
Obama (whose people should have done a better vetting job... that's also true) didn't need this. The nation didn't need this. Mr. Jones... your bad.
end quote
It seems to me that the very same concepts that Rev. Robinson speaks about here apply to those U*U ministers who seek top level positions in the UUA administration, if not rather more generally. . . I mean, let's face it, it's not like a good number of U*U ministers haven't said "impolite things" in the heat of various U*U shit storms, or U*U pissing matches for that matter, to say nothing of rather questionable U*U Sunday sermons*. . .
Here is the comment that I submitted to Rev. Christine Robinson's iminister blog in response to her "rant" about Anthony Van Jones and how loose lips sink ships of fools as it were. It will be interesting to see if it will get past her comment "moderation" aka censorship -
Does American Unitarian*Universalism aka the UUA need its brand-spanking new President, Rev. Peter Morales, on public record as asserting that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, along with any number of other "old religions" are "obsolete religions, created for another time" that "contribute to the darkness" of hatred, injustice, prejudice, ignorance etc. etc. etc.?
Just asking. . .
Anyway I guess U*Us can breath a sigh of relief that Rev. Calvin O. Dame, who redefined Small Group Ministry in interesting ways, was not s*elected as UUA Moderator eh?
end quote
Actually, in order to increase the possibility that Rev. Robinson might decide to publish this cautionary critical comment, I self-censored the parting shot last sentence regarding Rev. Calvin Oh Oh Dame. As originally written it did not contain the hyperlinks I added to it here, but it never got submitted in any case.
* Warning: It's a big fat U*U PDF file
